Dear Sukoon Community,
We held a Healing & Community Resilience Circle on January 18th with the hope that the circle would provide a small space where our community members can feel seen, heard, and held in their anger, grief, worry, anxiety, and courage. That last part is important, and we were touched during the healing circle to hear of not only what was heavy on the hearts of attendees but to notice through what was not said aloud: the courage instilled deep inside each person in our communities. Courage to keep showing up for our neighbors, our loved ones. Courage to continue, even in the face of mounting pressures and heartache. Courage to prioritize what truly matters: the people and their wellbeing.
Because we know that healing is not only mindfulness and advising one another to ‘lower stress levels.’ Healing is acknowledging current systems that make our lives harder and, often, dangerous. Healing is working together to dismantle those systems while caring for one another. Healing is keeping going even when it feels impossible, because we know we’re not alone.
We have included a list of resources in this newsletter. It is not exhaustive, but it is a starting point. If you or someone you know needs specific support to navigate this difficult time, do not hesitate to reach out to info@sukoonhealingoftheminds.org. We will do our best to support you.

Bridge & Bloom, in collaboration with Daryeel Youth, Youth Legacy, and Maangaar Voices presents: Virtual Community Healing Session for the East African Community.
In response to the urgent need for connection, care, and collective grounding during the current climate, we invite the East African community to a virtual healing session centered on resilience, reflection, and support. This gathering will include guided grounding exercises, guest speakers, and opportunities for reflection—creating space for care, connection, and shared strength. Rooted in our shared histories of survival and strength, this space is a reminder that even in moments of fear and uncertainty, our community remains deeply resilient—and we do not have to carry this alone.

Book A Workshop
If you or your institution/organization is interested in bringing Sukoon in to give a workshop in your community, visit our website to submit a request. We are excited to offer workshops on two topics at this time: Youth Mental Health (for parents and educators) and Social Media and Mental Health (for young people and parents).
| | |
Youth Mental Health
Did you know that 1 in 6 youth experience a mental health disorder each year? While this statistic is alarming, it can be prevented. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify the main signs of youth mental distress. Additionally, you will be guided through how to have difficult conversations with your child, how to determine when to seek additional help, and the resources that are available. Lastly, you will have the opportunity to discuss the misconceptions surrounding mental health in cultural and religious communities and explore how to reduce the stigma.
| | | |
Social Media and Mental Health
Did you know that some children are beginning to use social media as young as 8 years old? As social media continuously becomes a more prominent part of our children’s lives, it is important to be aware of the impacts it can have on their mental health. In this workshop, you will learn about the various ways that children’s mental health can be affected by their social media usage. You will be guided through different ways to prevent the harmful impacts of social media, and how to implement beneficial online habits for your child. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about the impact of social media based on your perspectives and experiences.

If you are interested in either of these workshops, or have a different topic you would like to see in the future, please submit your request at the link below.
