EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
| | |
Dear Chamber Members,
It is always hard for me to say goodbye to summer weather but with weather like we've had for the past couple of days I'm not sure its really over just yet. There is so much fun and excitement tied into the month of October that it is easy to embrace the fall season and all the possibilities it brings. Here are just a few of the many exciting events and opportunities coming up in this power packed month. From the Fall Women’s Show this Friday & Saturday, to our local municipal elections next Tuesday the 6th, and a Business After Hours hosted by Alaska Airlines on Wednesday the 7th, a 1 Year Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Yuli’s Alterations on Saturday the 10th to Moonlight Madness Fall Shopping Event and Community Block Party on Friday, October 16th, to the Chamber’s Annual Meeting at the Kodiak Marketplace at noon on the 22nd to our Annual Dinner on Saturday, the 24th at the Afognak Center, to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Arctic Physical Therapy in their new location on the 28th and we’ll wrap up October with a Downtown Trick or Treat on Friday, the 30th.
That full list of activities doesn’t include so many numerous other big sales, parties, events, fundraisers, community cleanups, and harvest themed or spooktacular holiday happenings this month. All of that and it’s an election year too. As voters we have some big decisions to make on who will be our next Governor, US House Representative & Senator, our local Alaska Representative and Senator. On our website kodiakchamber.org you can find the video coverage of the candidates' forum for the Borough Assembly and the Fisheries Debates for the Governor’s Race & the US House & Senate. Unfortunately, timing and schedules did not work out for the Chamber & KMXT to host local House and Senate candidates' forum but you should absolutely make time to get to know the candidates that will be on the November ballot and learn more about where they stand on the issues before you go vote.
Moonlight Madness Fall Shopping Event & Community Block Party will be Friday, October 16th…there’s still time to register for businesses, nonprofits, food trucks and musicians as you scroll through the newsletter. You can also sign up at kodiakchamber.org. While you’re there please let us know if you’ll be participating in a Downtown Trick or Treat this year. As always, tremendous thanks goes out to Sutliff’s ACE Hardware for sponsoring the Key Club Crossing Guards and the City of Kodiak helping our littles have a safe, happy and exciting experience trick or treating at our Kodiak businesses.
We hope you will join us for our Annual Meeting on October 22nd at the Kodiak Marketplace for a look at this past year and into 2027 over lunch catered by Bearfoot Bakery. Our Annual Recognition Awards Dinner will be on Saturday, October 24th, at the Afognak Center. This year's theme is an Evening in the Emerald City....scroll down for more information on both events. Dinner & Raffle Tickets are available on our website now. Check out this month’s Member Spotlight on Big Ray's as well as more information on member benefits and what's happening with some of our Member Businesses this month.
I hope you find time to embrace some of the many blessings of living in our great community this weekend from KHS Bears Football, to First Friday Art Walk, enjoying date night out, at the Fall Women's Show Friday and Saturday, at Emerald Isle Aesthetics Open House on Saturday and shopping the Anniversary Sale at Big Ray's. Kodiak, Alaska has a lot to offer indoors and out.
Warm Regards,
Ellen Simeonoff, Executive Director
