Kodiak Chamber Members,
With October here, let’s all remember to be BEAR aware. In all my years of living in Kodiak, I don’t remember seeing so many sows and cubs in town. They seem to be popping up everywhere. Take extra time to be cautious and clean near dumpsters, smokehouses, grills, and exterior food storage areas.
Please keep in touch with your CPAs/Accountants, and be sure to get your 1040s completed by October 15th, 2022, if you filed for a tax extension. This date is sneaking up on you fast. After these are filed, set some time aside with your CPA/Accountant to discuss profits or losses this year as well as significant purchases that you need to do or have done throughout the year; plan to use these items to increase your sales or efficiencies next year and reduce taxable income this year. Accountants can then help you plan what your cash flow and taxes will look like for 2022. Always wise to do.
Look at your calendar for October and set aside some time to go to some Chamber Events. Visit our website for details and makes some plans. It’s time to socialize again. Get to know your business neighbors. We have Business After Hours, Annual Dinner, Debates, Raffles, Downtown Trick or Treat, and more happening this month.

Kodiak Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting & Recognition Dinner

KMXT's Run the Rock
October 8 | 8 AM
KMXT's Run the Rock is a family-friendly event featuring a marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k. Stick around after your race for BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, too!
All races, except the marathon, start and finish at Bear Valley Golf Course. The marathon starts on Near Island and finishes at the golf course.

Opioid and Polysubstance Misuse Community Café

The State of Alaska's Office of Substance Misuse and Addiction Prevention (OSMAP) is hosting a community cafe to discuss opioid and polysubstance misuse in Kodiak. Come learn about current polysubstance use data in Alaska and share your experiences and thoughts to inform the Statewide Opioid and Polysubstance Use Action Plan. Refreshments will be provided.

KHS Shakesbears' - She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen

Tickets are on sale for the KHS Drama Production of “She Kills Monsters,” directed by Jared Griffin! A heartfelt, funny, family-affirming, and action-packed play about a group of friends in 1995 who connect over a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.
They’ll be showing 5 times from October 13-16, with 2 matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Kodiak 4-H Harvest Festival

Save the date for the Kodiak 4-H Annual Harvest Festival and pumpkin sale!
The event is free and great for families! They will have pumpkins for sale, a bake sale with fun fall treats, as well as fall photo opportunities and kids' activities.

38th Annual Stiles-Clark Auction

The Spouses Association of Kodiak is excited to bring this annual event back to the community this year! Proceeds raised from the Stiles-Clark auction will go towards Santa to the Villages, scholarships, and grant opportunities for local organizations. For those 21 and over, please join us for a memorable evening as we showcase the rich selection of goods and services our local and neighboring community artisans and businesses have to offer. Downtown Trick or Treat
October 28 | 3:30 – 5 PM
The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown businesses will be hosting the annual Trick or Treat Downtown on Friday, October 29th, from 3:30 to 5 PM.
All of Kodiaks goblins, ghouls, and other trick-or-treaters are invited to go to the participating businesses looking for treats. A map of participating businesses will be available to download by October 24th on the Chamber's Facebook page.
We are hoping that all businesses that have participated in the past will do so again this year, and we, of course, welcome any new participants too!

We know that many Kodiak families have greatly enjoyed this event in the past, and we thank everyone for making it a success and look forward to this year's event!

Kodiak Harvest Food Cooperative
Kodiak Harvest Food Co-Op is growing, and we have a store! Come visit Kodiak Harvest at 1420 Selig Street, Unit 100.
Kodiak Harvest is currently open:
- Wednesday, 4 PM - 7 PM
- Friday, 4 PM - 7 PM
- Saturday, 12 PM - 3 PM
Online ordering of fresh produce, local fish, dairy & cottage food items is available via our food hub site. The online ordering window is every Thursday 12 PM – Friday 12 PM, with local pick-up on Saturdays from 12 PM - 3 PM.
- Cottage food items, such as baked goods, jams, etc., are only available for online ordering.
Everyone can shop at the co-op. Membership is not required to shop at Kodiak Harvest, although membership does have its benefits.

Alaskans calling from the 907 area code can now dial 988, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be connected to a Careline Alaska counselor who is trained to respond to a crisis, provide emotional support, and connect callers with local resources.
Confidential support is available to anyone in crisis, including non-English speakers and those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
