"Founders' Day is a day to reflect on the school's history by connecting with individuals shaped by our school and those who shaped our school. We will honor excellence and challenges, pursuits and struggles, we will celebrate friendships, mentors, and colleagues. We will honor a different era of our school's history and an enduring mission of progressive education."

ALUMNI REUNION WEEKEND
Friday, September 20, through Saturday, September 21, 2019

Alumni who attended CSS during all eras of the school's history will return to campus. Those classes celebrating milestone reunions in 2019 include: 1969 (50 years), 1979 (40 years), 1989 (30 years), 1999 (20 years), and 2009 (10 years).

READY, SET ... FUN RUN!
Just a month into the school year, The Parents Association will host the totally awesome Fun Run and Carnival, a community-building event fueled by school spirit and parent volunteers on Friday, September 20, 2019.

Whether you're planning to run, walk, push a stroller or encourage runners from the sideline, you need to line up for a 12:10 p.m. start in front of the Louisa Performing Arts Center. Following the 12:10 p.m. Fun Run, families head to the Quad for Carnival with food, games, and laughs.
CARNIVAL FUN!
Try your hand at the many games and activities that will be at Carnival on Friday, September 20, on the quad.  Bring your family and friends to this annual CSS tradition that takes place immediately following the Fun Run.

The Carnival will help you make memories with your children that will last a lifetime and it's a perfect place to make a new parent friend. CARNIVAL IS A CASH ONLY EVENT. To purchase concessions, game tokens, or bake sale items, you must have cash in your pocket!  All the proceeds of Carnival goes DIRECTLY to benefit each classroom, club, or organization manning a booth.

Volunteer
The Carnival is organized by the Parents Association - this includes all parents! We need you. Volunteer opportunities include: working at your child's classroom booth, provide something for the bake sale tent, helping with set-up or take-down, and much more.

Volunteer with your class Carnival Representative or contact the Carnival chairs:
Booth Chair Wendy Woodbury, Booth Chair at  [email protected] or Logistics Chair Karri Kaleshefski at  [email protected]

Parent Supervision Required
We encourage all families to come and celebrate community with The Colorado Springs School at the Fun Run & Carnival. Parental/adult supervision is required at this event. While this is an event hosted at the school it is not an event in which faculty/staff will have supervisory responsibilities over students. For the safety of your children we ask that you attend as a family or arrange for supervision.
Calling all bakers
We are in need of individually wrapped treats to be sold at the annual Carnival for the Parents Association Bake Sale booth. Get creative and have fun. Anything from cookies and cakes to homemade jams, bread and candy.  Interested in volunteering at the booth? Contact Brooke Rawls at [email protected].

REVUE & BONFIRE
Friday, September 27, 2019
Revue runs from 6:30 - 8:30 in the Louisa Performing Arts Center
Bonfire takes place immediately following Revue at 8:30 p.m.

The Revue shares lots of laughs and tons of talent. A huge cast of students, faculty, and staff. Music. Comedy. Dance. Family-friendly performances. Perfect for all ages. Concessions will be sold in the lobby.

Following the Revue, the crowd will head outside for the annual bonfire. Treats and cocoa to be served. For the safety of all students, parents are fully responsible for the  supervision of your child(ren).

The school has applied for the bonfire permit with The Colorado Springs Fire Department and upon a day-of inspection, the fire will be permitted contingent upon adherence to safety guidelines and current weather conditions. Please direct questions about the Bonfire to Upper School Student Forum advisor, John Longo at [email protected].

Parental Supervision Required
We encourage all families to come and celebrate community with The Colorado Springs School at the Revue and  BonfireParental/adult  supervision is required at this event. While this is an event hosted at the school it is not an event in which faculty/staff will have  supervisory responsibilities over students. For the safety of your children we ask that you attend as a family or arrange for  supervision.

Special Parking Request
In order for Forum to set up the bonfire during the day, we ask that you do not park in the CAC gravel parking lot on Friday after 8:30 a.m. Drop-off will happen as usual, but please move your cars to the Trianon parking lot if you are staying on campus afterwards. A successful inspection by the fire department depends on this, among many other moving parts!

ROAR: Achievements
ALUMNI TEACH HANDS-ON TRIGONOMETRY LESSON

Driving cross-country from California to Florida, alumnus Max Fagin '06 took a break at The Colorado Springs School to make sure the giant sundial outside of the El Pomar Academic Center is still accurate. He, along with classmate Tyler Boschert '07 and others, began the project in 2006 during an Experience-Centered Seminar on archeoastronomy.

Boschert, a patent attorney in Denver, joined Fagin last week to help with calculations. They also saw it as an opportunity to engage with current students and used the sundial to teach hands-on advanced math to Upper School students in FST (Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry) class.

"It's a great lesson for trigonometry," said Fagin, who works for Made In Space, a company that specializes in state-of-the-art space manufacturing technology.

SUBMIT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS & PHOTOS
Parents and teachers are encouraged to submit nominations and digital photos of student achievements to Anslee Wolfe, Communications and Marketing Manager, at  [email protected] These extracurricular achievements make us a well-rounded school and highlight the many unique talents and passions of our student body.  Each week, a diverse selection of achievements is highlighted in ROAR and shared on social media.
