A Note on Security
In response to the growing need for enhanced security, we have implemented a comprehensive security plan that includes restricted entry points, the installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, and regular private security details on Shabbat and Yom Tov. For the coming weeks, we have engaged members of the Providence Police Department to provide security details and area patrols on Shabbat, for special events, and when our religious school is in session.
These efforts reflect Temple Emanu-El's unwavering commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all who worship within its walls, ensuring that faith and community can thrive without fear.

VOTE MERCAZ AT THE 2025 WORLD ZIONIST
CONGRESS ELECTIONS
| |
Now’s our chance. Voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress is now open! Head to votemercazusa.org, register, enter your pin and then scroll down and select MERCAZ USA (Slate 17).
Your vote matters. In the last World Zionist Congress, MERCAZ USA’s 18 seats made a meaningful impact — but we know we can do even more if we elect a larger delegation. With your vote, we can amplify the voice of the Conservative/Masorti movement and ensure it resonates louder than ever.
You’ve heard this call before, but now it’s time to take action: This election isn’t just about numbers; it’s about shaping the future. The delegates we elect will influence how over a billion dollars in annual resources are allocated —funding vital programs like:
- Bringing Israeli shlichim (emissaries) to Ramah camps
- Supporting sisterhood and men's club initiatives
- And much more that strengthens our community
We also need to stand strong against extreme voices seeking to redefine Judaism in ways that don’t reflect our values. Your vote helps ensure our inclusive vision is represented.
Vote MERCAZ USA (Slate 17) March 10 - May 4, 2025 at votemercazusa.org. And don’t stop there — encourage your friends and family to vote, and join the conversation on social media (@MercazUSA on all platforms).
Together, we can shape a more vibrant future.

| | TEMPLE EMANU-EL HAPPENINGS | | TALENT SHOW FUNDRAISING UPDATE | | |
Thank you all for coming to support and enjoy the diverse talent of our community. Thanks to your generous support our annual talent show fundraiser raised $2000 for HIAS, whose mission is: "Drawing on our Jewish values and history, and working with host communities, HIAS provides vital services to refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced and stateless persons around the world and advocates for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives."
Thank you all again, and we look forward to joining together next year to continue the tradition of celebrating some of the very best parts of our community.
| | Honor the memory of your loved ones by dedicating a memorial plaque in the Main Sanctuary or the Fishbein Chapel, creating a lasting tribute in their name. As it says in the Book of Proverbs, "The soul of a person is the lamp of the Lord" (Proverbs 20:27), through these plaques, may their light continue to shine brightly within our sacred spaces. | | New memorial plaques will be dedicated on Day 2 of Shavuot, June 3 - 7 Sivan in the Main Sanctuary, followed by kiddush. They will also be inscribed in the Scroll of Remembrance. To learn more about purchasing plaques, contact the Temple Office at (401) 331-1616 or by emailing info@teprov.org. | | NEW & INTERESTING READS IN THE ROSEN | | |
A Book of Jewish Concepts
by Philip Birnbaum
A comprehensive guide to Judaic concepts, published in 1975, by this reknowned author and translator. A good read for those interested in spirituality, history, and Jewish philosophy. An excellent reference volume for those new to Judaism, and those seeking a useful definition of ideas.
| | |
The Professor and the Fossil
by Maurice Samuel
Noted Jewish historian, the late Maurice Samuels dissects Arnold Toynbee's dismissal of Judaism as a "Syriac Fossil" in the once authoritative "A Study of History." Of interest to anyone who is interested in how much the story of our People has been historically slighted in Christian thinking.
| | | |
The Penal Colony, Stories and Short Pieces / The Great Wall of China
by Franz Kafka
Two classics by a major figure in 20th century literature. These two volumes are a collection of his shorter works. If you enjoy Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or Haruki Murakami, you will love these.

IT’S EASY TO HELP AN UNHOUSED PERSON THIS WINTER
Most of us have tucked away, in the back of closets and drawers, warm items for winter, things you’ve forgotten about or haven’t touched in a long time. YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE WITH THOSE ITEMS! It’s astonishingly easy. Just bring them to Temple Emanu-El.
Right now, according to the Providence Journal, 600 unhoused Rhode Islanders are sleeping outside. Shelters are full. On one recent February morning, police found 5 unhoused outside sleepers dead in the cold. The cold kills.
Here’s what’s needed. Items must be ADULT size, not kid size. Items may be gently used or new.
