A Note on Security
In response to the growing need for enhanced security, we have implemented a comprehensive security plan that includes restricted entry points, the installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, and regular private security details on Shabbat and Yom Tov. For the coming weeks, we have engaged members of the Providence Police Department to provide security details and area patrols on Shabbat, for special events, and when our religious school is in session.
These efforts reflect Temple Emanu-El's unwavering commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all who worship within its walls, ensuring that faith and community can thrive without fear.

VOTE MERCAZ AT THE 2025 WORLD ZIONIST
CONGRESS ELECTIONS
| |
Now’s our chance. Voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress is now open! Head to votemercazusa.org, register, enter your pin and then scroll down and select MERCAZ USA (Slate 17).
Your vote matters. In the last World Zionist Congress, MERCAZ USA’s 18 seats made a meaningful impact — but we know we can do even more if we elect a larger delegation. With your vote, we can amplify the voice of the Conservative/Masorti movement and ensure it resonates louder than ever.
You’ve heard this call before, but now it’s time to take action: This election isn’t just about numbers; it’s about shaping the future. The delegates we elect will influence how over a billion dollars in annual resources are allocated —funding vital programs like:
- Fighting extremist voices in Israel
- Bringing Israeli shlichim (emissaries) to Ramah camps
- And much more that strengthens our community
We also need to stand strong against extreme voices seeking to redefine Judaism in ways that don’t reflect our values. Your vote helps ensure our inclusive vision is represented.
Vote MERCAZ USA (Slate 17) March 10 - May 4, 2025 at votemercazusa.org. And don’t stop there — encourage your friends and family to vote, and join the conversation on social media (@MercazUSA on all platforms).
Together, we can shape a more vibrant future.

Ha-Yesid; Fundamentals of Hebrew
by L. Uveeler and N.Bronznick
A step-by-step textbook teaching modern Hebrew for the English speaking student. Difficulties in understanding are anticipated and clarified through explanations of Hebrew grammar, sentence structure, and modern usage. The readings are from a range of Hebrew literature ―ancient, medieval, and modern―and recast in language that illustrates the grammar, idioms, and vocabulary of the lesson, along with a review of what was learned in previous lessons. Exercises are geared toward strengthening the students’ abilities to compose Hebrew sentences.

Maus: A Survivor's Tale Volumes I and II
by Art Spiegelman
Art Spiegelman’s interviews with his father, a survivor of Auschwitz. Book I tells of the days before arriving at the camp, of the peaceful and prosperous life in Poland that over a short period of time, became a cat and mouse game for survival.
Book II tells of life and death in the concentration camp, and a tale of just barely surviving. Spiegelman’s graphic novel format gives veritas to the story, and vignettes of the time he spent with his father gathering the facts shows the imprint of that time.

Temple Emanu-El's teen volunteer group, Mitzvah Mensches, are collecting donations for Jewish Collaborative Services' Full Plate Kosher Food Pantry and the Jewish Community Day School of Rhode Island's Food Pantry.
Mitzvah Mensches will be collecting non-perishable food items until May 18, 2025 and donations can be brought to Religious School. Some needed items include low sugar jam/jelly, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, tea, coffee, granola bars, and more! Kosher items will be donated to the JCS kosher food pantry and additional items will be donated to the JCDSRI Taft Ave Food Pantry.
They have already collected 85 items towards their goal of 500 items by May 18. Please help them reach this goal and address the significant need for food security in our community!

SPRING IS COMING, BUT NIGHTS ARE STILL VERY CHILLY
Most of us have tucked away, in the back of closets and drawers, warm items for winter, things you’ve forgotten about or haven’t touched in a long time. YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE WITH THOSE ITEMS! It’s astonishingly easy. Just bring them to Temple Emanu-El.
Right now, according to the Providence Journal, 600 unhoused Rhode Islanders are sleeping outside. Shelters are full. On one recent February morning, police found 5 unhoused outside sleepers dead in the cold. The cold kills.
Here’s what’s needed. Items must be ADULT size, not kid size. Items may be gently used or new.
