Lulav and Etrog Orders

Deadline: Tuesday, September 28, 2022

The Torah instructs us to take four species in hand to celebrate Sukkot - willow, palm, myrtle and citron. The first three are collectively called a lulav. The citron, or etrog, is a sweet-smelling citrus fruit grown in Israel. The lulav and etrog are waved in the synagogue and in the sukkah. Lulav and etrog sets are available for purchase through the Temple website or by calling the Temple Office.

Tekiah Around Town & Communal Tashlikh

Monday, September 26, 2022

Tekiah Around Town | 3:30 PM & 4:00 PM

Gather in your neighborhood to hear the shofar on the first day of Rosh Hashanah! Check the website or call the Temple office for locations and times.

Communal Tashlikh | 4:30 PM

Tashlikh, which literally translates to “casting off”, is a ceremony performed on the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashanah. During this ceremony, we symbolically cast off the sins of the previous year by tossing pebbles or bread crumbs into flowing water. Join the Providence Jewish communities for Tashlikh together at the Seekonk River (53 Gulf Avenue, Providence).

Connect & Comfort

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 5:30 PM

On Holy Days, in the Temple in Jerusalem, mourners and others who had experienced difficulty during the year would circle the Temple grounds in one direction while other worshipers would circle in the other. As a result, they would bump into each other and one could offer support to the other. We invite you to join us on the second day of Rosh Hashanah so that we can connect with each other, offer words of comfort, and wish each other a Shanah Tovah.

HEALTH, SAFETY & SECURITY AT EMANU-EL

Click here for our current covid policy.

Temple Emanu-El continues to make safety and security a top priority. Our overall security plan includes, but is not limited to, restricted access to the building at all times and armed security. Most recently, we installed emergency panic alarm buttons throughout the building as well as an emergency public address system. We hope that our safety measures bring everyone a measure of comfort and confidence.
