A Note on Security

In response to the growing need for enhanced security, we have implemented a comprehensive security plan that includes restricted entry points, the installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, and regular security details on Shabbat and Yom Tov.

These efforts reflect Temple Emanu-El's unwavering commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all who worship within its walls, ensuring that faith and community can thrive without fear.

USY MLK DAY VOLUNTEERING!

Our USYers spent Sunday of MLK Weekend on a Mitzvah Mensches outing, volunteering at Your Neighborhood Food Pantry (YNFP). They learned about the critical role food pantries play in addressing food insecurity and did wonderful work stocking shelves in preparation for YNFP’s next distribution. Thank you to Donver Gardiner and the team at YNFP for hosting us, and to Repair the World for supporting this meaningful experience!

MEMORIAL PLAQUES

Honor the memory of your loved ones by dedicating a memorial plaque in the Main Sanctuary or the Fishbein Chapel, creating a lasting tribute in their name. As it says in the Book of Proverbs, "The soul of a person is the lamp of the Lord" (Proverbs 20:27), through these plaques, may their light continue to shine brightly within our sacred spaces.

NEW & INTERESTING READS IN THE ROSEN

gittel image

Gittel (YA)

by Laurie Schneider

After escaping the Easter Pogroms of Russia, Gittel, her family, and 12 other families settle in rural Wisconson, only to find that antisemitism wasn’t only a Russian problem. How Gittel and her family deal with their new surroundings and the challenges and joys that accompany it, are as relevant today as they were in the early 1900’s.

Refugee: The Graphic Novel (YA)

by Alan Gratz

Three refugees, one from Germany, one from Cuba, and one from Syria. Their stories intertwine, and are all similar tales of being uprooted in persuit of life. While the characters are fictional and the times change, the struggles that they need to overcome are historically real.

Behind the Bookcase

by Barbara Lowell

We’re all familiar with the story of Ann Frank, but what about the woman who organized their refuge from the Nazis? Miep Gies had her own difficulties to overcome, from being sent from her home in Austria after WWI to live with foster parents in Amsterdam. She was given a new name, and grew up to be the kind of person we all hope we will become in time of need.

A Synagogue Just Like Home

by Alice B. McGinty

Rabbi Ruben loves his synagogue, with it’s cheery red bricks and bright sunny windows. But like all old buildings, there are leaks and creaks and all sorts of things that need fixing. Rabbi Ruben tries to fix them himself, but finds that many hands make light the work, as his congregation pitches in to help make their synagogue feel like home.
