The Joys of Summer Camp

This summer, I visited three Jewish summer camps-Camp Coleman, Camp Barney, and Six Points-Sports. I was on faculty for a little more than a week at Camp Coleman. The other camps I spent a few hours at. TKC families sends kids to all three of these camps.  After spending time at these three camps, I can confidently say this – I’m a big fan of Jewish summer camps. All three of those camps are great.

Whose Team Are YOU On?

As some of you may know, one of my areas of focus these past couple months has been the organization and, in some cases, the revival, of various auxiliary groups within our Kehillah. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of these important committees and the goals around each, in hopes that one or more of these groups align with your interests. In most cases, committees are led by a member of our Board of Trustees but we are looking to involve more congregants!

We are also excited for our seniors who have become Teaching Assistants this year - these four wonderul madrichim have volunteered since ninth grade and are now able to take a bigger role in the classroom. Congratulations to Emily Deich, Ian Hirsch, Frankie Morantz, and Sam Litman.


Please also join me in welcoming our new Assistant Director, Ashley Abrams. She will be supporting the school's family events and overall operations.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT:

Youth Engagement

KLUB345

Come join the fun with Klub345, a youth group for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade members of TKC. We have many exciting activities planned for this year, including a movie/game afternoon and our Mitzvah and Sundae Sunday. Mark your calendars for our first Youth Engagement Shabbat date on September 20, and our first event of the year on September 15 immediately following religious school.

 

We invite you to stop by our table during the Annual Picnic on August 18 to decorate a cookie and sign up for the fun. Parents, if you have any questions or are interested in helping out, please contact Klub345 Advisor, Suesan Phillips, at 770-641-8630 or klub345@gmail.com.

We are excited for another great year with our middle school-aged youth group. We had a great year last year, doing fun events both onsite and offsite and with both of our Klub345 and RAFTY youth groups. We look forward to more events that engage these groups! Calendar and signups will be avilable at the annual picnic.

RAFTY

RAFTY is our Senior Youth Group for all 9th-12th graders. The RAFTY Board will be meeting on Aug 11th to finalize plans for the beginning of the year. They plan to welcome members to sign up during the Annual Picnic on Aug 18th. RAFTY will hold their first event on Sept 8th - details coming soon! RAFTY looks forward to participating in the Youth Engagement Shabbat and Lock In on Sept 20th, as well as leading the Teen High Holiday Services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

COLLEGE OUTREACH

The College Outreach Program is beginning its 11th year of staying in touch with your students who will be living away at college this year. The committee will be sending packages and cards to these students throughout the year and checking in to see how campus life is going. Send us their campus address and email for inclusion in our program.

Introduction to Torah Trope Class with Lori Dreffin

Have you ever wondered how people know how to chant from the Torah or know there is a method and wanted to learn yourself? Here is your chance.


Tuesdays from 6:30-7:15 pm: 

October 15, 22 and 20; November 12 and 19

Must have at least a moderate level of reading Hebrew with vowels and punctuation.
