Spotlight on Ceramics
This summer in ceramics your children are making a special project for Rosh Chodesh, the celebration of the new month (celebrated tomorrow). In order to learn about this monthly holiday we looked at moon phases and spoke about the changing moon B’nei Yisrael observed when walking in the desert. They called the full cycle a chodesh (month). This custom of following the phases of the moon became a core part of Jewish life and today we celebrate each new month with special tefillot, Torah readings, and share the greeting, "Chodesh tov!"
In honor of Rosh Chodesh, your children are making a ceramic plate, bowl or tray, and each month your family can have a special Rosh Chodesh snack on your child's new creation. Some snack ideas shared by the chanichim were Dunkin Donuts Munchkins (like the full moon) or Oreos (the frosting looks like moons and can be eaten like phases of the moon)!
Rosh Chodesh Av is tomorrow, on Shabbat, so we wish you a Chodesh Tov and Shabbat Shalom!
