Cooking with the Seasons

From Food Network
You'll find an amazing variety of heirloom tomatoes at the market right now. And a huge selection of sausage at Breakaway Farms. Enjoy!

Grown with Love
Fresh Produce, Plants & Flowers
Savaterra's Gardens
We are loving sweet peppers this week! The horn shaped sweet Italian peppers make great snacks for the kiddos with a built in stem handle and minimal seeds. Sweet, juicy, crisp and packed with vitamins A and C! Red peppers are high in lycopene which is great for heart health.

Here's the full list of veggie goodness: lettuce mix, arugula, red and green leaf head lettuce, kale (green curly, red curly, tuscan), collard greens, cabbage (red), basil, cilantro, dill, parsley, carrots, scallions, red beets, leeks, hakurei turnips, slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, green and yellow zucchini, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, red and yellow onions, eggplant, potatoes (red, yukon gold), green beans, red, orange and yellow bell peppers, red and yellow sweet Italian peppers.
Phillips Farms
Time for Grapes!
Phillips Farms will have different varieties available each week, and most varieties are seedless. If you've never tried these petite, locally-grown grapes you're really missing out. (They remind me of the grapes my grandmother grew on a small arbor at her Wilson Boro home.) Everyone’s favorite Concord Grapes (with seeds) are one of the last varieties of the season, so don’t expect them too soon. Other fruit available at Phillips this week: seedless watermelon, Sugar Cube cantaloupe, regular cantaloupe, peaches, nectarines, plums, blackberries, raspberries and new crop apples (Gingergold, Gala and Zestar). And don’t miss out on peak-season veggie favorites: Jersey tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, zucchini, carrots, kale, beets, onions, garlic and more.

Looking for bulk plum tomatoes to make sauce? Order by the case online.

Credit cards accepted. Online ordering available at www.FellowFarmer.com. Choose Easton Farmers Market as your pickup location. $20 minimum order requested.
Cabbage Throw Farm
Gazpacho Time!
Fresh summer goodness continues from Cabbage Throw Farm. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant and peppers will be available this weekend. Need a new way to enjoy them? Dean and Emily like to keep it simple, grilled vegetables with a slice of bread and fresh tomato. But maybe it’s time to make some gazpacho!
Blend together tomatoes, cucumber, onion, bell pepper (and a jalapeño if you like some heat). Add olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper and refrigerate for a few hours. Top with chopped garlic and fresh veggies and herbs before serving.
Other veggies and herbs coming to market include green beans, rainbow chard, carrots, beets, basil, oregano, dill and more.
Scholl Orchards
New Fruits on the Table
Canary melons arrive this week at Scholl's but get there early before your market manager buys them all (they're my favorite!). Red Haven yellow peaches and White Lady freestones are still plump, juicy and plentiful. And the red heart and bubble gum plums are delicious and good for little hands. For those that prefer nectarines- they're available in white & yellow. Red and yellow watermelon are super sweet and great with Feta cheese and a drizzle of balsamic.
On the veggie side you'll find beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, string beans, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, cukes, eggplant peppers, onions and more!.
Holy Cow Farm
Here come the sunflowers!
This weekend, Holy Cow Farm will have bunches of big beautiful sunflowers. These will go quickly so make sure to come early! Sunflowers pair beautifully with the bright red cockscomb and bold zinnias of late summer. Grab a bunch of each and mix and match to create your own table arrangements or you can always choose one of their premade bouquets!

The Backyard Growers
An unusual perennial...
Opuntia humifusa (Eastern Cold Hardy Prickly Pear Cactus)is a low growing cactus with a reclining and creeping growth habit and blooms from June to July with large bright yellow flowers two to three inches wide, sometimes with peach-colored centers. Its stems and pads are flat and covered with clusters of short, very sharp bristles. Loves full sun and well-drained soils. Its fleshy pads are also edible if peeled, and the seeds have also been ground and many parts of the plant have been used medicinally. For winter survival, the pads dry up to the point of appearing dead before revival in spring.

Origin: US Native
Common Names: Low Prickly Pear, Devil' Tongue, Indian Fig, Smooth Prickly Pear (Hardy Perennial)
Height: 6" to 12"
Primordia Mushroom Farm - Mushroom Musings
Hope this last blast of heat is treating you well! Here at the farm we kicking butt like always. The kids started online school this week, so there have been a couple of curve balls.

Some of you may not know, but until this wild Covid adventure started in the spring, we were making three weekly deliveries per week to NYC. That all changed in short order after friday the 13th (March). That was the date of our last "normal" delivery to the city.

I like to think that we have always been the types to think outside the box and find creative solutions... that is basically the story of our farm. When Covid hit, it took us a couple weeks, but we quickly came to the realization that we needed an exit strategy for NYC. Since then we have been pounding the pavement, and working hard to develop stronger local wholesale distribution routes. We have started a new route in bucks county, the river towns, and southern Berks. We are also stretching up into the Poconos with a route up into the Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg area. We are working on reinforcing the Philly route we already had in place.

Well last monday was our last delivery to NYC. We pulled the plug, we made the shift. Local sales have been growing and we needed to remove an element of crazy from the pile.... We are excited to jump on this new adventure, but also slightly nervous- NYC has been our core for 6 plus years.....

Anyway, big thanks to all of you for helping us make markets awesome this year! It has made a huge difference in our ability to make these shifts in our farm strategy. We are wide open to suggestions if anyone wants to suggest restaurants or markets that may have interest in our mushrooms.

This weekend we will have a plethora of Lion's Mane, Pioppino, and Shiitake (both regular sized and grillworthy). Please feel free to place orders ahead at primordiafarm.com and also- no trouble if you don't! We will have a ton of mushrooms coming to market!

More about the journey to come,
See you soon!
Matt and Jesse
As per usual, orders are not required, but are welcome. If you prefer to pre-order, and pre-pay, please make sure to have your orders in by midnight Thursday night, so that we are able to pack them Friday.
