I-CONNECT

I-Connect

BELLEVUE BOYS LACROSSE WINS EASTSIDE BOX LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

WOLVERINE WEEK IN REVIEW

Boys and Girls Cross Country – From Co-Head Coach Jory Hamilton

The Halloween rain did not hold back your Bellevue Wolverine cross country competitors at the 2025 3A SeaKing District Championship. We witnessed nine out of fourteen runners reach their personal/season records on Friday. Jillian Dreher improved from last week by over a minute, punching in another consecutive State appearance for an individual on our team. We are excited to root for her at the State meet in Pasco on Nov. 8th.

We are proud of everyone at Districts and every team member throughout the season. We pushed and encouraged each other to be the better every day. Onto Week 11, the final stretch. Go Wolverines!

AJ Morton Brings Freddy Krueger to Friday Night Lights

Bellevue senior channels his dad’s favorite horror movie villain, helping the Wolverines deliver a scary-good performance.

Earlier this week, Bellevue’s AJ Morton received a call from his dad, Chad, who happens to be the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“AJ, check the mail,” Chad said.

The senior wasn’t sure what to expect, but he did as requested and found a box waiting for him. Inside: a custom pair of Jordan 1 cleats. More than just stylish footwear, these Jordans were an homage to Chad’s favorite horror villain, Freddy Krueger.

“It was a total surprise,” Morton said. “I had no idea.”

The cleats arrived just in time for Morton to break them in and wear them during Bellevue’s 49-6 win over Interlake on Thursday night.

“It’s a big shoutout to my dad, kind of representing him, how he grew up, what he liked,” said Morton, who’s also a Freddy Krueger fan.

If a player is going to sport flashy custom shoes, their performance better live up to the look. Morton did just that, snagging an interception on a night when the Wolverines forced five turnovers.

“We played great,” Morton said. “I feel like the offense was 10 out of 10. Defense, nine out of 10. They had one drive where they were moving on us a bit, but we picked it up.”

All season, Bellevue has been building toward playing a complete game from start to finish. Thursday’s win was another step forward. The Wolverines’ sideline energy was at its peak, and they cut down on the offensive penalties that had plagued them earlier in the year.

“I think you’re starting to see the young guys click,” Bellevue coach Michael Kneip said. “The offense looks pretty good. But it’s coming down to no turnovers – which we did tonight – and executing in the big games.”

Despite the final score, Interlake, enjoying its best season in 44 years, gave Bellevue the kind of challenge it wanted heading into the postseason. Kneip praised Saints quarterback Julian Hayes and receivers Max Stephenson and Mykah Mondin, calling them as skilled as any offensive trio the Wolverines have faced this season.

“Those guys are legit players,” Kneip said. “They play hard; they battle. They’ve got a good core of guys, so you can’t come out flat.”

With Bellevue playing the day before Halloween, Morton had arguably the most seasonally appropriate cleats on the field. Still, running back Reylen Witherspoon gave him a run for his money with a pair of Jordan 11s.

When asked who had the better pair, Morton didn’t hesitate.

“Oh, definitely me,” he said with a grin. “Not even close.”

Boys’ Water Polo- From Head Coach Jenna Frazer

Bellevue varsity and JV faced off against Curtis on Tuesday. JV brought the energy in the night’s opening game. Senior Brenden Nago executed some powerful goals, and senior Joseph Poon also had a gnarly shot out of set. Other standout players included sophomores Noah van Breda and Matthew Dyer, and seniors Desmond Wan and Chirag Sarao, all of whom were dominant on defense and were offensive threats. Varsity struggled in the following game with foul trouble and injuries abound. Despite their best efforts, Curtis came away with a victory, but Bellevue had some shining moments: Ethan Bai, Aidric George, and Kaleb Thomson were scorers, with assists from Remi Babcox, Quincy Goldsmith, and Jensen Baker.

On Thursday, varsity and JV traveled to Kennedy Catholic for their final regular season game to compete for a ticket to the state tournament on November 13-15th. The first quarter was back and forth, with both teams searching for offensive opportunities. Kennedy drew first blood, but Bellevue quickly hit their stride. Each and every player stepped up and showed out; goals were scored by Remi Babcox, Quincy Goldsmith, Matthew Wan, and Aidric George, with assists from Jackson Franck on his first game back from an injury, Quincy, and Sol Edwards. Starting goalie Sol also proved his offensive process, scoring TWO full court shots against Kennedy. A senior lineup of Yash Kothari, Desmond Wan, Brenden Nago, Joseph Poon, Chirag Sarao, and Aidric George closed out the game and their final regular season match as Bellevue water polo athletes. With a Bellevue win 8-4 over Kennedy, BHS varsity punched their ticket to state on the 13th and sent Kennedy to state playoffs on the 12th, where they will have to win their way into the tournament.

Cheer

Thursday’s game against Interlake was also Senior Night. Bellevue HS Cheer and Dance joined Interlake HS Cheer and Drill for a combined halftime performance. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening run smoothly.
