Krasl Art Center Reveals the Inner Workings of Joe Baughman's Stop-Motion Animation Process in New Exhibition

ST. JOSEPH, MICH. AUGUST 8, 2023 — Krasl Art Center is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, The Stop-Motion Worlds of Joe Baughman, showcasing the extraordinary talent of cinematographer, director, stop-motion animator, and musician Joe Baughman. From September 16 to November 26, 2023, visitors will have the rare opportunity to experience the sets, props, and characters from Baughman’s acclaimed stop-motion animations.

Step into Baughman's home studio, and you will find yourself transported into a remarkable universe where every room is its own miniature production set. Baughman's animations have been showcased in music videos for renowned artists such as Wilco, The Roots, and Julien Baker, as well as in his own band, Joe Baughman and the Righteous Few. Now, Krasl Art Center proudly brings this experience into the galleries, unveiling the captivating process behind Baughman's work.

The exhibition kicks off with a preview event on Friday, September 15, from 6 - 8 pm. At 6:15, join Joe Baughman and KAC Executive Director & Chief Curator Tami Fauver in the galleries for a live artist Q&A. Afterward, mingle with the artist and enjoy a first look at the art on view. This event is free and open to the public, offering complimentary bites from The Bistro on the Boulevard and a cash bar.

Join KAC for Coffee with the Curator on Thursday, September 21, from 12 – 1 pm, where visitors can engage in an insightful discussion with KAC’s Executive Director and Chief Curator Tami Fauver. Those unable to attend in person have the chance to attend Baughman’s virtual Live at Lunchtime interview on Thursday, November 9, at noon on KAC’s Facebook.

For those looking to explore the techniques of stop-motion animation firsthand, Krasl Art Center is delighted to offer a Visiting Artist Workshop with Joe Baughman.
