Due to the oblong-a-bout under construction, parade watchers will not be allowed at the corner of 21st and Jefferson Avenues this year. Please plan accordingly.

The City is placing dozens of garbage boxes along the route. Please try to use them. There are extra bags in the bottom of the box. When full, be a good Samaritan: Remove the full bag, tie it off and place it off to the side. Then, replace with a new bag : )

Port-O-Lets

The City is placing 24 port-o-lets along the route. There should be a pair within a couple of blocks from everyone.

Mardi Gras Day

All roll Mardi Gras morning for Covington's biggest Mardi Gras day celebration ever. Due to the size of the parades and number of events happening on Fat Tuesday, this year the route will end at 23rd and Jefferson Avenues rather than making a second trip down Boston Street.

For 29 years, Louisiana’s famed Mardi Paws™ Parade has come at the tail end of Carnival season, always rolling on the Sunday AFTER Fat Tuesday. The Super Krewe for K9s features over 400 canines and their companions in costumes, tens of thousands of smiling spectators throughout Historic Downtown Covington and is truly a paw-rade with a purpose.

Mardi Paws 2023 benefits Scott's Wish and their "In Honor of Duco" Project, an all-volunteer IRS recognized 501c3 helping people and pets.

Utility Bills Mailed Late in January

The City's Utility Billing software recently underwent an upgrade at the same time we were changing our invoice mailing company. The combination resulted in bills being mailed late this month. Hence, we are extending the due date for payment from February 14th to February 20th.

Later this Spring, the City will be doing a massive software upgrade. Ugh.

Happy Sesquicentennial!!

A couple of years ago I was fortunate to be given the original program from Covington's 150 year birthday celebration.

Events marking the milestone were held from June 30th, 1963 to July 6th, 1963. They included vesper services, the official opening, inauguration of municipal officials and the Inaugural Ball ("Dancing and table accommodations will be limited to 500 persons"), 150 Year Review, Sesquicentennial Day, a golf tournament, visits from gubernatorial candidates and Bingo ($1 per card).

The list of citizens acknowledged for their support reads like a Who's Who of mid-20th century Covington including Mrs. Amos Neff who saved the program.
