This class features low-tech casting methods for jewelry or small metal projects focusing on recycling silver scraps from your home studio. Students will be able to sample four different casting types during the class: water casting, cuttlebone casting, pine needle casting, and bean casting.  
Workshop fee is $62 per student. Materials fee is an additional cost with a $10 minimum, will depend on what you use, and will be paid to the instructor during class. If you would like to recycle scraps from your home studio, please get content OKed by instructor.

Class size is 4 to 6 students.
Join us for our workshop "All Things Rings". Kristina Malcolm, a professional artist and silversmith, teaching part-time at local universities. This class features multiple hand techniques used in fabricating rings in wire and sheet from silver, copper, and brass. Prior soldering skills are helpful but not required. Please wear closed toed shoes and long hair back. Registration and class payment required in advance. 
Workshop fee is $74 per student. Students will be able to complete one small project during the class. Materials fee is an additional cost with a $10 minimum, will depend on what you use, and will be paid to the instructor during class. Advanced Bezel Set Stone Ring

Advanced Bezel Set Stone Ring
$79.00 plus a $10 minimum materials fee paid to instructor.
In this advanced level silversmithing class, students will explore traditional silversmithing techniques, such as ring sizing and fabrication, advanced silver soldering, and bezel setting cabochon (domed, flat backed) stones. Students will complete one ring of their design during class.
Silver soldering experience is a must for this advanced class. Students can purchase cabochon stones and materials from the instructor.

This class has everything to do with making and using jump rings – from secrets on how to make fast and efficient quantities of them at a time to soldering them to your work.

Metalsmithing Basics

Metalsmithing Basics
$299 (or $79 for any single class) plus $10 minimum materials fee each class.

Kristina Malcolm is a professional artist and silversmith and teaches metalsmithing part-time at local universities. This class is designed to cover many all-purpose techniques in metalsmithing including: sanding, filing, sawing, cutting, piercing, , fold forming, textures (hammer, stamping, etc.), polishing, etching, patinas, cold connections, annealing, soldering, and fabrication. Students will be able to complete several small projects featuring the techniques discussed during classes. The first class introduces using a jewelers saw, filing, standing and forming a copper cuff bracelet. The second class features non-ferrous etching with ferric chloride and focuses on honing sawing and piercing skills. We will also be learning drilling, patinas, and cold connections in a medium sized pendant project. The third class feature fold forming in copper with a small free-form project. The fourth class introduces silver soldering techniques and fabrication with a small earring project. The final class will focus on advanced silver soldering techniques where students will complete a sterling ring with a stone setting combining all of the hand-working techniques.
Workshop fee is $299 per student for five classes. Materials fee is an additional cost with a $10 minimum each class, will depend on what you use, and will be paid to the instructor during class. In this intermediate level silversmithing class, students will learn traditional silversmithing techniques, such as ring sizing and fabrication, forming, and advanced silver soldering.
Beginners are welcome but silver soldering experience is helpful. Students can purchase materials from the instructor. Students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools (pliers, wire cutters, etc.) Contact the instructor ([email protected] ) with any questions and please wear old clothes, long hair tied back and closed toe-shoes. This class will be kept comfortably small (3 to 8) and is open to ages 14 to 99, but won't discriminate if over 99. Registration and class payment required one week in advance.  
Advanced Prong Setting

$74 plus $10 minimum materials fee
Kristina Malcolm is a professional artist and silversmith with an MFA from Kent State University. In this class, students will learn how to hand fabricate a traditional four prong stone setting from scratch in sterling silver. Students can bring their own faceted stone but the more symmetrical shapes will be easier to set. Some stones will be sold by the instructor (estimated expense is $25 or more each).
Workshop fee is $74 per student. Materials fee is an additional cost with a minimum of $10 to be paid to the instructor the day of class to help offset variable expenses.
