Lin Myat, LaGuardia Community College ’24, made such a transformation! When she started in 2022 as an international student, it was challenging for her to adapt to a new country. She felt afraid to join clubs because she felt like she didn’t belong. Eventually, she put herself out there and got involved in on-campus opportunities like The Entrepreneurs Club and LaGuardia’s Peer Advising team. As she gets closer to graduating with a degree in business administration later this year, Lin says she did the right thing in engaging with her campus community because she appreciates the meaningful connections she made. |
What is something tangible and specific you would advise a current student to do, to help their professional growth?
“Actively seek out internships or part-time positions related to your field of study. These opportunities provide valuable real-world experience, letting students apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Additionally, internships often lead to networking opportunities and can even result in full-time job offers upon graduation. By gaining hands-on experience early on, students can develop crucial skills, expand their professional network and increase their marketability.”
