CUNY Callouts

Lin Myat, LaGuardia Community College ’24, made such a transformation! When she started in 2022 as an international student, it was challenging for her to adapt to a new country. She felt afraid to join clubs because she felt like she didn’t belong. Eventually, she put herself out there and got involved in on-campus opportunities like The Entrepreneurs Club and LaGuardia’s Peer Advising team. As she gets closer to graduating with a degree in business administration later this year, Lin says she did the right thing in engaging with her campus community because she appreciates the meaningful connections she made.

What is something tangible and specific you would advise a current student to do, to help their professional growth?

“Actively seek out internships or part-time positions related to your field of study. These opportunities provide valuable real-world experience, letting students apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Additionally, internships often lead to networking opportunities and can even result in full-time job offers upon graduation. By gaining hands-on experience early on, students can develop crucial skills, expand their professional network and increase their marketability.”
