We made Pretzels for Lent!
How are pretzels and Lent connected? Pretzels were developed as an option to satisfy fasting laws of the time. Eggs, fat, and milk were forbidden during Lent. So, the remaining ingredients that one could use included water, flour, and salt. A young monk baked the first pretzel — making a Lenten bread of water, flour, and salt, forming the dough into the prayer position of the day and baking it as soft bread.
As the story goes, the pretzel is in the shape of arms folded in prayer. The three holes in a pretzel are also said to represent the Holy Trinity. Pretzels can be a wonderful way to teach children the value of prayer during Lent.
The Path to God from Kyle, Texas

How can you get to God from where you are?

At Kyle United Methodist Church, we will observe the traditional season of Lent, a time of preparation for Easter, by considering this question.

Each week, we will consider a different way that can connect to God, no matter what your spiritual life has been like in the past. If your faith life has felt a bit empty, predictable, or non-existent, this season will refocus and deepen you to make this Easter the most meaningful yet.

Click here for a list of pathways and practices. Click here for video inspiration from people walking these pathways.
Easter Lillies

If you would like to purchase an Easter Lily in Honor or in Memory of someone to be displayed during the Easter Services, please fill out the bulletin insert and place in the offering plate with your payment.

You will be able to take your lily home after the 11:15 Easter Service.
Save the Date for our Easter Egg Hunt
Sunday, April 5th at 12:30pm

We will need donations of FILLED Easter eggs for the hunt!
IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!

We're encouraging you to LIGHTEN YOUR LIFE FOR LENT!

Go through those extra closets and dresser drawers and pass on what you no longer need.

On April 25th, we're doing our Annual Free Garage Sale. We have seen in the past that this is a church-wide event, and we're getting some extra help from partner agencies this year.

We're doing it a little differently this year. When you bring your items, please have clothes items sorted by gender (in a perfect world, also by size, but we know how hard that can be), and household items sorted together. We'll be receiving items for donations from Sunday, April 19th through Thursday the 23rd at the church. Please hang on to them until then because we simply don't have the space at church.

We've done this twice in the past, and we've heard testimonial after testimonial about how helpful it is for our community. God has moved mountains for people through this act of service, and people are already asking about this year's date. Please prayerfully consider what you're able to donate and know that it matters. People receive help they desperately need, and they see Christ moving.

Children's Sunday School- Elementary age

Last January we added bringing offering to Sunday School and this year we are adding Memory Verses!

One of the most important things for young minds is to plant the word of God as early–and as often–as possible. Teaching the Bible to young ones, and then helping them to memorize it verse by verse, plants important spiritual seeds in their minds and hearts that will sprout into faith for years to come!

We will work on one bible verse every 3 weeks with activities and bible stories each Sunday that relate to that verse! Please help your kids practice their verses at home! We will be asking them to recite it at the end of the 3 weeks. We'll have fun prizes for remembering their verse!

Our verse for March:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here!
 2 Corinthians 5:17
Sunday Night Youth Group
Join us Sunday evenings from 6-8pm for fun, fellowship and worship! Open to all 6th-12th graders and their friends!

Upcoming events:
Mar 15- No Youth Group (spring break)

Mar 22- Prayer Labyrinth at Seton (meet at Seton hospital at 6pm)
Who wants to come hang out with some awesome youth?!? We are in need of adults to help with Youth Group. Can't help every Sunday? That's ok! Help when you're able. We have to have a minimum of 2 adults each Sunday for Safe Gatherings ratio so that gives us an opportunity to have lots of adults impact the lives of the kids in our growing youth group!

Can't help on Sundays? You can support our youth by providing meals and snacks.
If you'd like to volunteer or want more information, please contact Alissa Villarreal at childrenandyouth.kumc@gmail.com or 361-441-4206.
Our purpose is to serve God by dedicating ourselves to pray each day for each person, need and concern as listed in both the confidential prayer list and the persons named in the church bulletin and newsletter. We welcome anyone who would like to join us. For more on joining, contact Natha Caldwell.

Prayer request slips are available in the sanctuary pews and may be placed in the offering plate on Sunday to be given to the pastor. Persons may also contact Natha Caldwell (512-618-3908) , Joann Runkle (832-741-7237) or Pastor Stella Burkhalter (512-415-6708) with requests (please include both email and phone info for us).
