Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

Our sermon series  Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity  is nearing its conclusion. Last week we talked about “Cultivating Contentment.” This Sunday brings our final topic in the series: “Defined by Generosity.” What defines your life? Is it wealth? belongings? faith?

Many of us live with a scarcity mentality, worried that we must gather and hoard as much as possible, saving for some imagined “rainy day.” Or we focus on self-gratification. But the Bible promises both God’s blessings and joy for those who choose to live another way. The following Sunday we will consecrate our gifts to the ministry of our church for the coming year. I urge you to join us this Sunday as people who are defined by generosity and who experience true joy.

Schedule
October 28 “Defined by Generosity”
November 4 Consecration Sunday

The Living the Questions Adult Sunday School class will begin its next study series on Sunday, October 14th, Prayer and Your Life.

Throughout the 11 week series, we will explore our current prayer lives, how the Bible tells us to pray and who to pray for, how to be more mindful in our prayers, when we should pray, and so much more.

Join us as we all grow in our prayer individual prayer lives and explore prayer as a means to support each other, the church, and the world!
The October 7 blood drive totals are in and we had 17 donors presented to donate, with 4 being deferred, for a total of 13 whole blood donations.

You can sign-up now for our Sunday, December 16th drive at:

Free and Open to the public
The annual Angel Tree will kickoff Sunday, November 11. This date is earlier than ever before so we can make sure to meet the needs and deadlines for CASA of Central Texas, the agency will we be working with this year. CASA advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers.

We are very grateful that the Youth Group will be helping with the Angel Tree this year. They will select the Angels for the tree, help with tracking gifts and deliver the gifts in early December. When you select your Angel we also ask that you pray for each one of them by name. The total amount spent on each child should be in the $30-$50 price range. Items on the wish list are suggestions from their CASA volunteer, you are not expected to purchase everything on the list. Typical requests are for dolls, art supplies, Legos and gift cards.

Please remember to fill out the indicated area on the back of the Angel and drop it in the labeled box. This way we can keep track and make sure all the Angels make it back in time. Gifts should be brought unwrapped and placed under the Christmas Tree in the Fellowship Hall by Sunday, November 25. Make sure to include the Angel on the gift so it goes to the right child. The Youth Group will be delivering the gifts on Sunday, December 2.

There will also be Angels on the tree asking for donations to the Blessings Box that the Young Adult group maintains. We are looking for donations of diapers (especially bigger sizes), canned goods (preferably with pull tabs), non-perishable snacks and gloves or knit beanie caps.

  • More show than tell
Animated Bible story videos use visuals and sound effects, giving kids the opportunity to retell the story in their own words.

  • Bible-centered approach
Kids interact with the Bible in every lesson, following the arc of the biblical narrative.

  • Continue the conversation
Kids walk away from lessons, retelling the stories they’ve learned and taking home completed activities.

We'll have 2 classes for the Fall: Toddler-Kinder and First-Fifth Grade
Youth Sunday School

Spending time in community with other believers is an important part of every student’s spiritual journey. That’s why Bible Studies for Life: Students is designed around a plan to help disciple to students with wisdom, starting with real-life issues and connecting them to God’s Word in an intentional way.
  • Welcome Home (Unit 1): Words are an important part of communication, but they only make up a small portion of what we communicate to others. We want to have welcoming churches and student ministries, but we first have to evaluate what we are really communicating through our behavior. We might be saying the right words, but do visitors truly feel accepted?

  • In this study, we’ll take a look at what it means to show true hospitality to our neighbors.
BLESSINGS BOX

On October 31st at 10am, please join us for an official Ribbon Cutting at the Blessings Box with the Kyle Chamber of Commerce. We would love to have a great KUMC representation in order to share with the community is wonderful mission as well as all of the amazing things God is doing through the church!

Cookies and punch will be served after the ceremony. If you are able to assist in the baking or purchasing of cookies and/or punch, please contact Krystyn Jensen (512.618.7478) and have your items at the church in the Fellowship Hall by Tuesday, October 30th!

Our Blessings Box is getting utilized by the community, which is great, but that also means that it is getting emptied out quite frequently. Please consider donating non-perishable food items, diapers, personal care items and snack food items (goldfish, raisins, etc) if you are able.

One person from the community told us she visits the Blessings Box at least twice a week and is especially grateful for the diapers and kid friendly foods. She says she stops by on the way to take her kids to the park and can almost always find a snack for them.
