  • Sabbath Services on You Tube are the new normal.
  • A virtual Seder was enjoyed by many.
  • On April 16, Rabbi Shull led a Yizkor service.
  • Harvey Cohen keeps us informed via You Tube.
  • The Education Committee is now planning to offer their programs online. Watch for these.
  • Cantor Marci is posting music on our website and our Book Club also had their meeting on Zoom.
  • The JCV board has their monthly meetings on Zoom, even though we’d prefer to gather in person. Hopefully, live streaming is coming soon.

The JCV is STILL a happening place. It’s up to you to be involved. Watch the blasts! Check the JCV website https://www.jewishcongregationofvenice.com Take advantage of all that is being offered. We will get back to normal! Until then, be safe, be well and keep looking to see what’s happening at your JCV!

Shawn Bergeron and Jin Ling Liao
Welcome to our new members! Jin was born and raised in China. She owned a clothing store and a hair stylist shop before moving to Sarasota in 2006. She was looking to purchase a home and met Shawn, who is a licensed real estate agent. Shawn was born in Tonawanda, NY (between Buffalo, NY, and Niagara Falls). He served in the US Marine Corps for 2 years and then was employed in construction for 20 years in the Buffalo area. After relocating to Sarasota, he became a real estate agent. Jin’s daughter is in her third year at West Point Military Academy and they’re so proud of her accomplishments. Through DNA, Shawn discovered his Jewish background so Shawn and Jin's current main interest is Torah study. Both are employed at Publix, but in their spare time enjoy exercising and biking. Jin also loves to nurture her fruit trees. They love spending time with their two rescue boxer dogs, Max and Charlie. We welcome Shawn and Jin to our JCV family and look forward to getting to know them better.
Steve Simon
Steve was born and raised in Highland Park, IL, and his family spent part of every summer in Wisconsin where, in the early 1840s, his father's side of the family arrived from Alsace, France. They were one of the first Jewish pioneer families in Wisconsin. When Steve and his wife are not in Venice or traveling, they live on a small lake near Slinger, WI which is 45 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Steve graduated from Hiram College, in Ohio, with his BA in Social Science. Over the years he also earned his MA in Education and MA in Clinical Psychology. Through the years Steve trained in community organizing and worked on several political campaigns. He also did executive searching and was a headhunter placing healthcare executives. Finally, he owned a business that provided lectures and discussion group leaders for retirement communities and senior centers in the Chicago area. Steve and his wife, Jan, have three adult children. They retired in 2018 and will be spending six to eight months in Venice with their standard poodle, Chloe. While in Florida they enjoy local performing arts. Steve is an avid bike rider and loves being outdoors. Becoming a kayaker is a top priority while in Venice.  In addition,Steve is an active member of the Venice Area Audubon Society. He enjoys practicing Tai Chi and looks forward to joining our JCV class in the fall. We welcome the Simons to our area and look forward to schmoozing at many upcoming JCV events.
