Clarification on current LA HAP application procedures
At this time, LA HAP is still:
- allowing case managers to sign applications on behalf of clients who are unable to visit the office to complete their application
- allowing clients or case managers to submit a letter attesting to income as documentation of income
In the beginning of the COVID-19 emergency and with HRSA’s permission, HIP made several early payments on insurance policies allowing current and recently-expired members to maintain active insurance coverage through June 30
th
, even if their LA HAP eligibility had lapsed. Going forward, HIP will no longer be able to make payments outside a client’s eligibility period; therefore,
please encourage recently expired or expiring clients to recertify by June 30
th
.
As an additional reminder,
please inform LA HAP staff as soon as any of your clients begin receiving Medicaid benefits
. When we receive timely notification of Medicaid enrollment, this saves the program thousands of dollars over the course of the year.
Tax filing deadline approaches
Federal and state tax filings are due on July 15
th
. Please keep in mind that ALL LA HAP clients enrolled in a Marketplace plan are obligated to file taxes.
Per federal law, all LA HAP clients who took an Advance Premium Tax Credit are also obligated to return to HIP any excess premium amount that is credited to them on their tax return.
Failure to do so may result in loss of benefits. See more information here.
