LPC Board Meeting Updates

What?

The Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) Board of Examiners held a board meeting March 20th, 2020 to address the concerns of licensees and public constituents during the state's current health emergency.

Will there be live training requirements for Continuing Education Hours for the 2020 LPC Renewal? No. The 40 hour CEH requirement will not include live or synchronous training.

Can provisional licensees accrue more than 25% of their supervision hours via telephonic modes? Yes. The accrued hours while under a state of emergency should be documented and recorded according to current regulations.

Can applicants still apply for licensure now that the LA State Police (LSP) station is closed to the public? Yes. Applicants can apply for licensure. Criminal Record Checks will not be required until post-licensure. Details of that process will be presented to new licensees.

Will fingerprint background checks be required for anyone during the 2020 LPC Renewal? No.

Can Louisiana licensees in good standing with the board practice telehealth across state lines? Teletherapy rules are rescinded during the governor's declared state of emergency. Please review federal guidelines as well as the laws in the state your patient is located.

Will the board consider graduate students that were unable to complete direct hours? The LPC Board does not regulate academic institutions and therefore does not hold a position. If a student graduates from a CACREP (or equivalent) accredited school, academic requirements are often considered to be complete.

Will the board office remain open? The office is operating and receiving mail but is not be open to the general public. Please submit all applications and renewals via www.lpcboard.org .
