District Elections for the
City of Chula Vista?
The Charter Review Commission has been tasked by the City Council to make a recommendation on whether to put a measure on the ballot for a vote of the citizens of Chula Vista to change the form of elections for City Council members. This will be up for action this week at the Charter Review Commision
NOTICE MEETING OF THE CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION
Police Department Community Conference Room
315 F Street, Chula Vista CA 91910
Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Currently, all Council members are elected "at large" - voted on by all citizens. The proposal is to change the form of elections to "district" elections. This would mean the city would be divided up geographically into smaller voting districts and that a council member would have to live in each district. There are several forms of district elections including "by district," "from district" and hybrids. To change to this type of voting method requires a change of the City of Chula Vista Charter which requires a vote of the people. |
