On an Elm Tree Shaded Hillside...
Dear Alumni & Friends,
Though our classrooms have gone silent for the holiday break, today the Grant Rink and Stone Athletic Center are noisy with the sounds of skates and sneakers, as the Annual Groton/LA girls’ basketball and boys’ hockey tournaments are in full swing. Part of the festivities leading up to last night’s tournament-opener vs. Cushing – always a night when many alumni (and, this year, the Alumni Council) return to the hillside – with a wood-fired pizza truck sponsored by the Advancement Office, filling empty stomachs while camaraderie warmed happy hearts. As always, it was spectacular to see so many Spartans back on campus.
Indeed, this three-week period between holidays has seen more than its share of the spectacular. Picking up right where an amazing fall term left off, our students began their winter athletic seasons, performed in a lavish holiday concert featuring our student singers and dancers, and made us proud as they performed original poetry in two spoken word slams.
While the students share these incredible gifts with us throughout the year, we are especially grateful to celebrate their hard work, achievements, and spirit during this special season. 2018 promises to be another good year for LA, and we’re already looking forward to MLK Day, Winter Walk, the Judith French Poetry Recitation Competition, this year’s musical production Rent, and, of course, Winterim.
