Volume IV | November 2017
On an Elm Tree Shaded Hillside...

Dear Alumni & Friends,

November’s theme is “Run, run, run, rest…”

Literally.

Since we last communicated, LA has seen Spirit Week , Open House, “ Arts Week , ” and the ISL Cross Country Championships on our busy campus.

This past weekend, in particular, we watched the varsity football team claim the ISL title and earn a bowl bid; meanwhile, the varsity volleyball and field hockey teams each earned NEPSAC playoff berths , even as the entire school completed fall term final exams, projects, and papers. We'll know the final results of all these efforts very soon.

Whew!

It seems funny to talk about the increasingly gray days of November fondly, but as fellow granite-stater, Robert Frost once wrote:

Not yesterday I learned to know
The love of bare November days
Before the coming of the snow,
But it were vain to tell her so,
And they are better for her praise.

There’s much November praise to be shared throughout the Academy, especially for the folks in Buildings and Grounds, who made tremendous progress on the Lawrence House renovations, even as they staffed each of the many events named above. See a video tour of the campus improvements here.

Furthermore, it’s with great pride that the community celebrates all the hard work of the students and faculty throughout the fall, both inside and outside the classroom, playing fields, and performance spaces.

Everyone has earned a few days’ vacation and a nice big meal...
May the winter be as productive (and busy)!

From the Hillside,
Robinson Moore
Associate Head of School
