Dear Alumni & Friends,
Spring summons our desire for renewal with the reawakening of the planet after a cold winter, and no time is better to heighten awareness of the need to take care of Mother Earth. This year, a student-led initiative has drawn attention to the negative impact of single use plastic by calling on the community for a week-long effort to avoid all such wares on campus and encourage sustainable alternatives.
We are proud that our students are leading the way and living the LA mission of commitment to the common good. This past week, on Cum Laude Day, as we have for many years, we recognized such good work in an alumnus, presenting the Greater Good Award to Rob Kaplan ‘97 who has dedicated his career to fighting plastic waste and creating alternative solutions to its perceived necessity.
He is the Founder and CEO of Circulate Capital, an impact management firm dedicated to financing companies, projects, and infrastructure that prevent the flow of plastic waste to the world’s oceans, with an eye on advancing the circular economy.
