Welcome to the October edition of the Local Administrative Advisor (LAA) Connection Newsletter! This month, I've been able to assist with many exciting projects around the region, including: subdivision ordinance implementation support, Moderate Income Housing Report responses, and supporting applications for the Rural Communities Opportunities Grant program that was shared in the September edition of the LAA Connection.

As we look forward into November, don't forget that the WFRC Wasatch Choice Vision Workshops have kicked off across the region. The Southern Weber County workshop is on October 30, and the Northern Davis County workshop is on November 13. Visit the Wasatch Choice Vision Workshop Map here to see what workshop your entity may attend. Please note that if your community is located in Morgan or Tooele Counties, workshops are in the process of being scheduled in partnership with UDOT and will be shared in upcoming editions of this newsletter. Visit WFRC's Wasatch Choice Vision website to learn more about the key strategies that are shaping transportation choices, housing choices, parks & public spaces, and city & town centers in your region.

If you need any assistance with funding applications or have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Municipal Smart Controller Grants

Is your municipal water system interested in installing smart controllers? Government entities in Utah are eligible to receive reimbursement of 50% of the cost of smart controllers up to $1,500. For all municipalities outside of the Central Utah and Weber Basin Water Conservancy District areas, click here to apply through Utah Division of Water Resources, and if you are in Davis or Weber Counties, click here to apply though the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District.

Bike Utah’s Community Assistance Program (CAP)

Bike Utah's Community Assistance Program assists local communities in addressing barriers to cycling and creating a more bike-friendly environment. Projects like active transportation planning, Safe Routes to School planning, community workshops, and community-level bicycle maintenance strategies all are eligible activities under the CAP opportunity. Click here to learn more about Bike Utah and the assistance available to municipalities.

Rural Employment Development Incentive

The Rural Employment Development Incentive (REDI) grant is designed for businesses creating new high-paying jobs in rural Utah communities. The REDI grant is a great opportunity to share with private sector leaders to help support rural employment opportunities. The grant may be available to businesses creating new employment positions in rural cities/towns with a population of 10,000 or less in Weber, Davis, Utah, and Washington counties.

UDOT Allocation of Class B & C Road Funds

Does your entity regularly update its road inventory with UDOT to include new road mileage? If not, you may not be receiving your proportionate share of Class B & C road funds (the revenue that helps you maintain and construct roadways in your entity). If you would like training on how to complete the Mileage Update Submittal Form, please schedule a time to meet with me to review your current mileage map and road inventory.

Utah Land Use Regulations Training Handbook - Now Available!

The Office of the Property Rights Ombudsman, the Utah League of Cities and Towns, and the Utah Department of Workforce Services have partnered with the Utah Land Use Institute to provide all local elected and appointed decision-makers, including municipal council members, planning commission members, and appeal authorities a free copy of Ground Rules – Your Handbook to Utah Land Use Regulation. Use the Utah Land Use's online form to order your complementary copy of Ground Rules.

Do you have a community photo you would like highlighted in a future newsletter? Email your suggestions to madison@wfrc.org to be included in the November edition of the LAA Connection.

Sincerely,
