Implementation Deadline Reminder - Detached Accessory Dwelling Units (DADUs)

A 2026 Legislative Session implementation deadline is coming up on October 1. SB 284 requires MIHP municipalities to adopt an ordinance allowing a detached ADU on any single-family zoned lot greater than 11,000 sq. feet. DADUs may still be subject to setbacks and other regulations that would apply to a single-family home. If you are not an MIHP city, SB 284 has other requirements for all municipalities that went into effect earlier this year. Municipalities must post land use laws and fees online if you have an actively maintained website, and you must create checklists for each land use application and make them available online. View the DADU one-pager created by ULCT, or watch the full ULCT DADU 101 webinar for more information.
