Digital Sales Tips

Email Marketing is one of the most effective online marketing tools to help grow your business. It can be used to keep in contact with your current clients and prospects.

You can use a free email marketing program like Mailchimp to get started or you can purchase a more robust system like constant contact. Create sub-lists in the program of choice. One email list could be called current clients, another prospects. You may want to send your current clients regular value added communication like a newsletter or updates in laws. For prospects you might want to send them products or service info, ways to help them save money or add services, or anything else that shows you are are an expert. The key is to always stay in contact and to add value.

But how do I grow my email list? Start with your current clients as you probably already have their email. If you do any trade shows or conferences, you can do a raffle and have prospects fill out a contact card with their email address. When you are at networking events, ask people for their cards. You can also create a free guide to collect emails addresses that you can offer on your website and on social media. There are many ways to grow your email list and email is a great way to do regular "touches" of those prospects.

Be sure to visit and follow LAAHU on whichever social media you prefer, see links at the bottom!

FEBRUARY 2017
President's Message

Hello Fellow LAAHU Members,

Have you surfaced after 4th quarter? I hope so, and I hope you have taken some time to rejuvenate!

We will be sending out our annual report of chapter accomplishments in the next couple of days, and this newsletter is full of good stuff so I won't write a long article.

 Now is the time to get involved with your local chapter. We would not accomplish ANYTHING if it weren't for the time, treasure and talent our volunteers give to bring value to our association. It's only as hard as you want it to be - we just want you to participate! We have been working on a succession plan for leadership and we need more rising stars to surface. We should have contested races for our board of director positions every year , it is a true honor to serve on the board of directors of the Los Angeles Association of Health Underwriters. If you want change to occur, be a part of it! I can tell you from experience, participation grows you personally AND professionally. (That doesn't even include the extra benefits/rewards you receive as a board member - such as comped admission to our monthly member meetings, and a chance to put your name in the hat for stipends to attend Capitol Conference in Washington D.C. and NAHU's Annual Convention - taking place in Orlando, FL this year). Email info@laahu.org or contact me at dawn@mnmbenefitsolutions.com if you want to find out how you can get more out of your membership!

 At our most recent meeting we had Judi Rose, VP/Chief Development Officer of the San Fernando Valley Healthcare Clinic, present the clinic's value to our community. In participation with the NAHU Education Foundation, LAAHU has chosen to begin its efforts of supporting San Fernando Valley Healthcare Clinic.  A big thank you to Kerry Wright,  Barry Sikov and Alan Katz for fostering a relationship with the clinic. We have set a goal to raise $2000 in donations in the month of March. Please email info@laahu.org OR bring a check and/or your credit card to our March 16th monthly membership meeting (Ethics, Ethics, Ethics!). Click here to read more details of the impact of this clinic on our community and if you are interested in a tour of the facility we would be happy to arrange it.

As always, thank you for your membership and I encourage you to reach out to any of us on the board with questions, ideas, or if you just want to get involved. You can find our contact information on the website at www.laahu.org. Here is to your continued success!

Warmest Regards,

Dawn McFarland

LAAHU's New Agent Development and Mentoring Program
by Sima Ried

How can we engage and connect with individuals new to our industry?  We believe mentors are an important part of the process.  We have so many wonderful, experienced members that have a wealth of knowledge they can share with someone new to our industry.  Please let us know if you have a few hours a month to share your experience and expertise with a new member.  We hope you will consider being a mentor.  If you are interested in participating in the LAAHU mentor program, please contact me at 562-496-3760 or by email:  sima@twentytwentyins.com.

2017 NAHU CAPITOL CONFERENCE RECAP
By Barbara Oberman-Lippe

2017 NAHU Capitol Conference
2017 NAHU Capitol Conference

I didn't think my trip to D.C. could get any better until I stepped into Cola's cab.  Pronounced like Coca Cola he told me.  Cola is from Nairobi and moved to D.C. many years ago.  I said to him where is President Obama now that there are so many changes to his health care law? Cola immediately commented that life has both positive and negatives, we must look at the positive side.  Governments and administrations have both positive and negatives.   There is both good and bad.  We need to focus on the good.  Only seeing the negative is not living at all.  We are so focused on materialism, on the size of our houses, and on the future that we do not enjoy today.  Look at Steve Jobs he said.  All the money in the world, a brilliant mind, running one of the world's most successful and influential companies, and his life was cut short.  We have to enjoy today.  We don't know what tomorrow will bring.   No matter how much you have you cannot control everything in life.   Despite his heavy accent I got it.  And I agree.  We do need to look at both sides and recognize maybe we won't have the exact results we want, but there is more than one way to get there.   Then again, I came to Washington to make our voices, and to help protect the future of our healthcare system.     To have a dialogue with our lawmakers in Congress, to educate them on behalf of hundreds of millions of Americans at risk of losing their health insurance as a result of the new administrations proposed changes, to make a difference.  What an exciting experience it is to participate in the political process, to make a contribution, and I hope, to be a part of the solution.  I am so very proud have the opportunity to speak directly to our lawmakers in Congress about what is impo rtant to each and everyone one of us, our healthcare, our family's healthcare, and preserving the employer based healthcare system that has worked so well for over 70 years.  What an amazing trip!  Thank you for this enriching experience.  I am hooked!

Best wishes, Barbara Oberman-Lippe

MEDIA CAMPAIGN
03-01-2017- 09-01-2017

We need YOU!

As things continue to be confusing and undetermined WE need to be diligent in getting information out both to media sources AND the consumers.  Think about how much information consumers are getting without our background to help guide their decisions.  We have some great momentum with our Media Relations Chair, Dede Kennedy-Simington, but we need as many people as we can get to write Op-Ed's and Press Releases; and we need contacts in Radio, TV and whatever other media to ensure we are sending out accurate BIPARTISAN information that can make a positive change on our healthcare system.   Here is the link to helpful tools that NAHU provides, you can use the content already developed.  You can also contact Dede directly, dede@genesisfinancial.biz, if you have a contact that we can add to our list, or if you just want some direction.  Be sure to re-tweet and share posts from LAAHU, CAHU and NAHU's social media that can help educate the people following you on ANY social media platform.

Benefits for the 21st Century - Private Exchanges
By Sima Reid
Our world has changed so much and quickly; how we approach offering employee benefits is moving at a snail's pace in comparison.
How many times a day does someone say "google it" when asked a question? It seems that today no matter what you are looking for, your answer can be found by "googling it". Will Black Friday turn into Cyber Friday soon, probably? Did you know that for the 2016 holiday season Amazon shipped over 1 billion items worldwide (Reuters 12/27/16 Tech News)? Are phones really phones anymore, are you reading your favorite paper online, videoing the crazy thing you saw at the store, forgotten what it is like to use a camera, buying from Amazon from your phone... I could go on and on how smart phones have changed our lives. Our world has changed, to stay current and modern, employee benefits must do the same. Many employers see the value in structuring their employee benefit programs to meet the needs of their multi generational employee population. A Private Exchange brings all the elements together creating value for the employer and the employee.
