Join the LABS' Students and Young Professionals (SYP) Group for a tour of the Long Beach Groundwater Treatment Plant, operated by the Long Beach Water Department. With a capacity of 62.5 MGD, this drinking water facility is currently the largest groundwater treatment plant in the US. Source water is drawn from approximately 30 active groundwater wells owned by the Department. The treatment process consists of coagulation and flocculation, chlorine disinfection, filtration, chloramine disinfection, and fluoridation before distribution to the service area.
