Los Angeles has achieved a historic milestone on our path to a carbon-free energy future—ending the use of coal in the City’s power supply. Mayor Karen Bass recently joined LADWP CEO and Chief Engineer Janisse Quiñones to announce that in November, the City received its last coal-fueled energy from the Intermountain Power Project in Utah. This achievement marks a pivotal step in the City’s decades-long commitment to environmental sustainability and climate leadership.

This fall, LADWP organized a series of guided tours for stakeholders of the Los Angeles Aqueduct system, featuring visits to Owens Lake, Mono Lake, and several environmental restoration sites. Tour attendees also had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with leaders from the Fort Independence Indian Community. These tours are part of LADWP’s ongoing effort to encourage open dialogue and honor the legacy that sustains this historical water supply.

Beware of Scams Around the Holidays

LADWP customers are reminded to stay vigilant this month, as utility scams often increase during the holiday season. Don’t let the busyness of the season distract you from spotting impostors who call and threaten service disconnection. LADWP never demands phone payments with a live representative. Scammers use pressure tactics to urge you to act quickly, so remember to pause, verify information, and avoid suspicious requests.
