As L.A. heats up, here are some public safety tips and resources to help you beat extreme heat and stay cool!
-
Don’t shut off your AC because of financial concerns: If you’re worried about finances, rather than shutting off your air conditioning, contact us to sign up for financial assistance . EZ-SAVE offers discounts for low-income customers; Lifeline offers lower rates for seniors age 62+ and individuals with disabilities. And any customer can enroll in Level Pay, which creates a consistent, predictable bill each month, to help with budgeting.
-
Stay hydrated and drink more water, especially if you also drink coffee or soda.
-
Feel ill? Tell someone immediately. You may be suffering from dehydration, heat illness, or even heat stroke. Symptoms of dehydration and heat illness can include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, nausea, cramps, headache, and vomiting. Heat stroke can manifest the same symptoms as well if body temperatures reach 103°F or above. Symptoms include hot, red, dry, or damp skin; or a fast, strong pulse.
-
In the event of a heat stroke: Call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Move the person to a cooler place. Lower their temperature with a cool cloth or bath. Do not give the person anything to drink.
