LADWP Celebrates Juneteenth

Gold background with green, black, red, and brown text that reads, “Juneteenth Celebrating Freedom.”

As we approach Juneteenth on June 19, let’s take a moment to recognize the profound significance of this holiday – not just in American history, but in the ongoing journey toward equality, justice, and inclusion.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom. This day marks a pivotal moment of liberation, which also reminds us of the long and continuing struggle for civil rights. At LADWP, we continue to remain committed to cultivating an inclusive workplace where employees can grow, feel seen, be heard, and contribute their unique perspectives to drive meaningful impact.

As we observe Juneteenth, let’s take time to reflect on this holiday. Whether you take the day to participate in local events, be with your community, or spend time with loved ones, may it serve as a moment of inspiration, deeper understanding, and celebration.

If you’re looking for a local event, you can find us at the 3rd Annual Juneteenth Block Party on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 12 p.m.- 5 p.m. The event will take place at Central Avenue between 23rd St. & Adams Blvd. and will include music, vendors, food trucks, and more. Council District 9 is hosting the celebration of Juneteenth with music, food, culture, community and family fun. LADWP will provide information about career opportunities, discount and rebate programs. We hope to see you there!

Be Part of the Transition to 100% Clean Energy in Los Angeles

Curious about clean energy? Join LADWP at one of our LA100 Plan Community Meetings to learn how Los Angeles is moving toward 100% clean energy and how you can be part of the transition. We are hosting four virtual LA100 Plan Community Meetings from June 23-28.

L.A.’s energy future is guided by the LA100 Plan, a 25-year long-term range plan that provides a roadmap and pathways for LADWP to reach goals that align with state and local objectives for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions and clean energy. The LA100 Plan is updated every two years by a team of experts that run simulations to evaluate a range of scenarios for LADWP’s power system to reach 100% clean energy by 2035.

Another Successful Lineman’s Rodeo Event

On Saturday, May 17, LADWP in partnership with IBEW Local 18, hosted the 33rd Annual Lineman’s Rodeo at LADWP’s Truesdale Training Center in Sun Valley. This family-friendly event featured line workers from LADWP and other utilities competing in various challenging events. This annual event provides an opportunity for the public to better understand and recognize the skills that line workers use every day to keep the lights on and restore power.
