Celebrate Women's History Month

This Women's History Month, get to know your all-female Board of Water and Power Commissioners. Together, they oversee and set policy for the nation’s largest municipal utility, serving water and power to more than 4 million residents of Los Angeles, its businesses, and visitors. The Board meets regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m.

In October 2020, the Board made history as the first all-female board to lead LADWP. Since then, they have continually championed women’s empowerment. Through initiatives such as the Women’s Council and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in our workforce, they help ensure that female employees have the support they need to thrive.

And in an effort to expose more women to career opportunities that LADWP offers, we'll be hosting the first-ever Women's Career & Wellness Expo on May 6 at our Truesdale Training Facility in Sun Valley. The event was postponed from March to May due to weather conditions, but it's a good reminder that every day is a good day to celebrate our trailblazing women and the history they're making.

Weathering the Storm

Since the beginning of the year, Los Angeles has experienced a series of severe wind and rain storms that caused significant damage to our power grid. Fallen trees on power poles and persistent wet conditions resulted in water intrusion into our underground system that caused longer than normal restoration times. Our crews worked tirelessly under severe weather conditions and did not stop until power was restored to all affected customers.

The severe storms we experienced are a reminder that disasters can happen anytime. We urge you to be prepared especially with additional storms ahead. Stay prepared!

Vote in Your L.A. Neighborhood Council Election!

LA’s 99 Neighborhood Councils together form the grassroots level of the Los Angeles City government. The system was established in 1999 to connect their communities to City Hall. Neighborhood Councils advocate on issues like homelessness, housing, public safety, parks, and sustainability. They also provide a local voice in delivering City services to their communities. Find your Neighborhood Council and get involved.

Neighborhood Council elections start at the end of March in West LA; the last one is June 22 in the Southeast Valley. Both Vote-By-Mail and in-person voting at the polls are available this season, but mail ballots are only shared by request - they aren’t sent out automatically to voters. Partnering with Neighborhood Councils

We're the only department in the City of Los Angeles with a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Neighborhood Councils committing to regular and ongoing communication about our programs and policies. The 2023 - 2028 MOU was approved by the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners on January 24, 2023. The new MOU will be posted online soon!

The DWP-NC MOU Oversight and Advocacy Committees meet every first Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Meetings are broadcast via webcast. Join us!
