Every Drop Counts

Water conservation image.jpg

Angelenos have made water conservation a way of life, but with the ongoing drought conditions, we are urging our customers to do more. Mayor Eric Garcetti recently announced that the City of Los Angles will move to Phase 3 of its Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance– requiring all LADWP customers to cut the number of outdoor watering days from three to two. LADWP customers with street addresses ending in odd numbers, watering will be limited to Mondays and Fridays. For all customers with addresses ending in even numbers, watering will be limited to Thursdays and Sundays. If approved by City Council, the transition would go into effect June 1.

We continue to offer our customers rebates and incentives, which helps customers conserve more water and to save money on their bill. We also expanded our water conservation rebates with a 25% increase to our high-efficiency clothes washer rebate, from $400 to $500, as well as a more than 65% increase to our water-efficient toilet rebate, from $150 to $250.

The less water we use now, the more we have for when we need it most. We’re in the together. Keep up the good work L.A.!

Utility Pre-Craft Trainee (UPCT) Program is Changing Lives!

As a jobs creator and employer, we are committed to creating paths to secure employment, especially for members of underserved communities, promoting STEM education that may lead to future employment at LADWP, while also investing in the leaders of the future.

In partnership with IBEW Local 18, we offer the Utility Pre-Craft Trainee (UPCT) Program, an “earn while you learn” program, which provides a pathway for Angelenos to good-paying middle class, green-collar jobs.

Due to the expected retirement of an aging workforce, LADWP expects to fill about 3,000 positions over the next five years. These jobs include meter readers, maintenance and construction helpers, water utility workers, security officers, custodians and many more.

Welcome Sergio Perez, LADWP’s first-ever, Inspector General

Sergio Perez has been named LADWP’s first-ever Inspector General.  As the new Inspector General, Perez will be part of our senior leadership team, providing continuous review and oversight of contracting matters, whistleblower complaints, ethics, and other internal policies. Perez and his team will be empowered to initiate investigations and oversee the Department’s Internal Audit Division, Special Investigations Unit, and ethics compliance staff.

Essential Work Continues

Recently, Mayor Eric Garcetti, 12th District Councilmember John Lee and State Water Resources Control Board member Sean Maguire joined uto dedicate the newly completed Los Angeles Reservoir Ultraviolet Disinfection Plant (LARUVDP) in the San Fernando Valley. This second UV facility supplements the existing Dr. Pankaj Parekh Ultraviolet Disinfection Facility which treats water with ultraviolet light that has already undergone several treatments before it enters the LA Reservoir. The new UV plant treats the water with ultraviolet light once again, at the outlet of the Los Angeles Reservoir, before it enters LA’s water distribution pipes that transport water to LA’s homes and businesses.
