Our Board of Commissioners recently announced the most comprehensive effort in the city’s history to help hundreds of thousands of customers that have been financially strained as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and who have been burdened by mounting unpaid utility bills. An expected $300 million will be used to help qualifying customers whose family household budgets were crushed during the pandemic shutdown, leaving their utility bills unpaid. Additionally, our Board extended the shut-off moratorium to March 2022.

Honoring a Hero
On November 4, we lost one of our own. Michale Lemestre, a member of LADWP’s Power System, died in the line of duty while performing the vital work that helps keep L.A.'s lights on and water flowing. We paid tribute to our fallen colleague today with a five-minute department-wide “Stand Down” at 10:52 a.m.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder that the work that many of our employees perform on a daily basis to keep our City running, can be hazardous. Our employees who work to keep our lights on and water flowing are unsung heroes. On days like today, we are reminded just how vital they are to all of us.
Transformed Shipping Container Brings Indoor Farm to the San Fernando Valley
We joined Los Angeles City 12th District Councilmember John Lee, representatives from Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and LAPD Devonshire PALS to unveil a shipping container that was transformed into a water- and energy-saving indoor pod farm to grow and harvest vegetables year-round in any climate. This partnership with EPRI is the first in the City and is just one example of how we maintain a leadership role in environmental stewardship and continue to work with the community to build a stronger Los Angeles through innovation and service. The farm's first harvest is expected early next year!
Keep Conserving, L.A.
Drop is here to remind us that it is more important than ever to stay vigilant with our water conservation efforts as we navigate the current dry weather conditions. Take simple steps to reduce your use. We offer a variety of rebates, programs and free water conservation items to help make conservation even easier for our customers. Together, we can do more to protect our precious water resources and the environment.
Essential Work Continues
At Pacific Coast Highway and South Wilmington Blvd., in the Harbor area, our crews recently replaced a series of aging power poles with new, sturdier ones, part of our ongoing effort to upgrade our infrastructure and improve electric service reliability.
Partnering with Neighborhood Councils
We're the only department in the City of Los Angeles with a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Neighborhood Councils committing to regular and ongoing communication about our programs and policies.
