More Cool LA Events Bring Heat Relief for Seniors

Since this summer, LADWP has distributed over 1,100 free air conditioners to qualified customers aged 60 and over at our Cool LA Heat Relief for Seniors events!

These events – which are hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Aging – have been held in parts of the City that suffer most from extreme heat because they are “heat islands,” where the average temperature is a few degrees hotter than surrounding areas.

We have more Heat Relief events coming soon. Visit LADWP.com/HeatRelief2024 for updates and participation details!

LADWP Meter Reader Saves Man Trapped in Basement

On September 27, LADWP Meter Reader Jose Rosales descended in an elevator to a pitch-black basement to read a meter. When finished, he tried to call the elevator back down but it refused to respond, so after several attempts, he took out his flashlight and began searching the basement for another way out.

Suddenly he heard a noise coming out of the darkness behind the open door of another room. Shining his light in, he discovered a weak, emaciated man who said he had been trapped in the basement for “several days.”

Mr. Rosales eventually found a stairwell leading out of the basement. Once he was out, he enlisted a passerby and the building manager, and together they helped free the trapped man.

Many thanks to Mr. Rosales for his quick thinking, and for going above and beyond the call of duty!

LADWP at Congress of Neighborhoods 2024

We had a wonderful time joining Neighborhood Council members from across the City at the 2024 Congress of Neighborhoods at Los Angeles City Hall!

Our team had a table sharing information about ways to save money, water, and energy. We also led a session where we shared overviews of our water and energy conservation programs and rebates and our tools for Neighborhood Councils.

Thank you to all the Neighborhood Council board and committee members who attended our session and stopped by our table!

Pure Water Los Angeles

Pure Water Los Angeles is a new water supply initiative that LADWP is developing in partnership with LA Sanitation and Environment (LASAN), in order to diversify the City of Los Angeles’ water supply portfolio.

The program will create a new, sustainable water resource for the City by providing purified recycled water from LASAN’s Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant through the use of advanced treatment and purification processes.

As part of this initiative, the secondary water treatment process at Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant will be upgraded before that water is treated again at a future Advanced Water Purification Facility.
