September 2021
National Preparedness Month
September is National Preparedness Month and this year's theme is "Prepared to Protect." Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love. This is a great reminder that we all must prepare ourselves and our families now and throughout the year to ensure that we are ready to respond to disasters when they occur. Take time this month to review your family emergency plan and supplies. Make sure your supply kit includes enough food and water for at least three days, a flashlight, a fire extinguisher, and a whistle. Consider each person's specific needs, including medication. Get a kit and make a plan.
Let's Get to Saving L.A.!
We’re joining the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to increase awareness of the worsening water shortage affecting California. We’ve done a great job conserving in L.A. and now it’s time to do it again! We offer great money and water-saving rebates and programs and encourage you to learn more at ladwp.com/conservationsquad. Together, we can conserve even more.

A New Park Is Coming to South Los Angeles
Ninth District Councilmember Curren D. Price, Jr. and President Cynthia McClain-Hill of the Board of Water and Power Commissioners came together in South Los Angeles to announce a partnership to build a new park at the corner of Figueroa Street and Slauson Avenue, the site of a vacant LADWP property. Community members were asked to offer input on what they’d like to see at the future park to be named after the late State Senator Bill Greene. The park design process is in the beginning stages and community input will be an essential part to determine the desired features.

Essential Work Continues
We trim about 250,000 trees each year to keep them away from our power lines and high-voltage equipment to maintain excellent power reliability and also prevent wildfires. Our crews recently completed this tree trimming work at Distributing Station 81 in Van Nuys.
Partnering with Neighborhood Councils
We're the only department in the City of Los Angeles with a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Neighborhood Councils committing to regular and ongoing communication about our programs and policies.

The DWP-NC MOU Oversight and Advocacy Committees meet every first Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Meetings are broadcast via webcast. Join us!
