Cool LA: Beat the Heat and Stay Safe

LADWP recently announced a new initiative for Angelenos to tackle the warmest months of the year and it's finally here!

The new 'Cool LA' initiative offers many solutions to help customers stay safe and comfortable such as rebates of up to $225 to purchase or replace various types of cooling units, and providing eligible customers with an option to enroll in "Level Pay" to smooth out high bills through payment plans spread out across the year.

An array of existing programs that address short-term and long-term climate change-induced extreme heat are also included in the ‘Cool LA’ initiative.

Beat the Heat

National Preparedness Month

For the past several months, California has been hit with record-breaking heat waves, fires, and a tropical storm in parts of Southern California. Evidence shows that the adverse weather we’ve experienced, particularly the extreme heat is not an anomaly, but a pattern we should now expect every year due to climate change. While we can’t predict the future, National Preparedness Month reminds us that we all must prepare ourselves and our families now and throughout the year to ensure that we are ready to respond to disasters when they occur.

Be prepared and stay informed.

Stay Safe

REMINDER: Recycled Water Fill Stations Are Open!

Two recycled water fill stations are now open: one at the Los Angeles-Glendale Water Reclamation Plant and another at the L.A. Zoo parking lot! Customers can fill empty water containers with up to 300 gallons of recycled water for irrigation. Since the City moved to two-days-a-week watering, the recycled water stations are part of the City’s effort to help Angelenos continue their water conservation efforts.

Labor Day Storm Preparation & Response

Over the Labor Day holiday, the extreme heat and high demand coupled with the tropical storm that immediately followed resulted in power outages that affected about two and a half percent of LADWP’s 1.5 million residential customers, at its peak.

At times, LADWP field crews encountered challenging repairs both in our overhead power lines and below in underground vaults. Ranging from broken cross arms and wires down across several spans to damaged poles and underground vault work – repairs can be quite complex and time-consuming. Repairing underground equipment presents its own set of challenges as our field crews have to work in cramped spaces and at times, also in unbearable heat.

Thank you to our field crews who worked around the clock until all power was restored to those affected and for continuing to keep the power flowing and our lights on.

Also, thank you to our customers that continue to conserve energy while staying safe.
