Time flies when you're having fun, and the summer recreation season has been nothing less. Temperatures are starting to cool and as the leaves begin to change we want to remind everyone to check the dates for facility closures. Klondike Lake officially closed for public boating on September 6, and Crowley Lake closes for the season on October 30.

3rd Annual Upper Owens River Stewardship Event

Join us for the 3^rd Annual Upper Owens River Stewardship Event on Saturday, October 22 in partnership with the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, Inyo National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and the Sierra Trash Eliminators.

First, we will clean up the watershed fueled by breakfast and lunch from Great Basin Bakery then we will explore the watershed through nature-based family-friendly kids activities by the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association and a fly fishing demo by Sierra Bright Dot fly fishing specialists.

LADWP Watershed Resource Group In Action

LADWP's Water Operations Northern Aqueduct Division and Watershed Resources group is dedicated to the management of nearly 315,000 acres of land, and the plants and wildlife that reside in Inyo and Mono County.

Our staff includes field biologists, environmental scientists, ecologists, geologists, and staff with specializations in botany, geography, wildlife habitat, and more.

Fall Field Work:

Laws Revegetation - Crews planted approximately 9,000 native plants covering 253 acres of project land.
Blackrock Waterfowl Management Area - Water releases started in September for year two of the Interim Adaptive Management Plan.
Avian Surveys - Surveys are occurring at Owens Lake, Blackrock and in the Mono Basin.

LADWP Achieves 99.4% Dust Control Reduction at Owens Lake

LADWP staff briefed the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners at their July 12th Board Meeting on the success of two decades of dust mitigation at Owens Lake. Achieving dust control compliance at the lake has come at a cost of more than $2.5 billion to LADWP ratepayers.

Angelenos Have Achieved the All-Time Lowest Water Use for August on Record in the City of Los Angeles

LADWP customers have heeded calls to conserve throughout the summer – reducing their water use by 9% in June and 11% in July, both record-lows. The demand for water in the month of August was 10% lower than the previous two years, despite this past August being hotter in Los Angeles by an average of 3-5 degrees. LADWP’s rolling GPCD (gallons per capita per day) has now fallen to roughly 111 from 113 last year. Outdoor watering from three days a week to two went into effect on June 1, 2022.

High Sierra Energy Foundation Awarded Community Grant for Energy Efficiency

LADWP’s Community Partnership Outreach Grants Program awarded the High Sierra Energy Foundation (HSEF) with a $60,000 grant. The program assists non-profit organizations in reaching LADWP customers (in this case electric) that may not be reached through traditional communication strategies. HSEF is tasked with energizing Owens Valley residents and businesses to reduce their energy use by promoting energy efficiency and locally-available programs and through the demonstration of community projects. Northern District Crews Fight Fires and Floods to Protect Major Infrastructure

Over the summer months, our crews have had to respond to multiple mutual aid calls to assist local agencies such as CalTrans and CalFire during flash floods and wildfire events that caused road closures and structural damage. Thank you to our employees and first responders who respond at all hours of the day and night.

LADWP has created opportunities for Owens Valley employees to engage with students. Educational and mentorship programs help the young workforce appreciate hard work and team building and learn what it’s like to work for our utility.

LADWP has a new billing option called “Level Pay.” Level Pay allows residential customers to receive a monthly bill with a set amount. Paying the same amount every month levels out seasonal high bill fluctuations and helps you budget better.
