LAEF is proud to support the Denver College Affordability Fund, which opens the doors to students under the age of 25 to pursue their college education. This initiative will be on the Denver ballot this November 6, 2018.
Every day we see qualified, smart, and talented Denver students who are not able to continue their education simply because of the high costs of attendance. By the year 2020, 74% of jobs in Denver will require a post secondary degree or certificate. However, less than half of our current Denver residents, 25 years and older, have a bachelor's degree or higher. In order to change this statistic we need to make changes in our community.
This proposal asks Denver voters to approve a dedicated funding stream for college access and success programs, scholarships and wrap-around services, through a 0.08% sales tax increase. This is less than one penny on a ten-dollar purchase, but would generate nearly $14 million annually. The objective is to expand access to post high school education for Denver residents and increase their education completion rates. High school graduates under the age of 25, who have lived in Denver for the past 36 months are able to apply.
Vote YES on the "prosperity initiative." These funds will be available to existing non-profit organizations, like LAEF, devoted to providing high school graduates
with educational opportunities.
