President's Message:

Happy Fall Y'All!  Our warm, summer days are at an end and with that brings our beautiful Colorado Fall.  Now is the time to create, inspired by all the colors around us.

I just finished reading an inspiring book "Painting as a Pastime" by Winston Churchill.  If you ever get stuck in the creative process, pick up this little book (less than 100 pages) and get your mojo back.  He didn't start painting until the age of 40, then painted wherever he went until he died leaving over 500 paintings for us to enjoy.

A couple of my favorite quotes from his book:
"You will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."

"Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely. Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end, or almost to the end, of the day."

"Painting is like a joy ride in a paint-box."

Whatever inspires you to create; going to a gallery, watching "how to paint" videos, taking a walk in an aspen forest, taking a trip to Italy (lucky Jill Rumley!) reading inspiring books, etc., - just do it and then grab your paintbrush!

Happy Creating!

Pastel Demonstration by
Dawn Buckingham

Our guest pastel artist, Dawn Buckingham, will demonstrate the alcohol under painting technique that she  often uses during pastel painting plein  air sessions.  This technique allows her to establish composition on
the surface at the beginning of the painting and to then work quickly to complete the painting.  Dawn generally
completes her plein air paintings in a single outdoor session of 2 hours or less.  She will demonstrate using
UArt 400 paper, Terry Ludwig pastels and a recent photo for reference and two value notan.

Check out her website to see more:

Mini Art Show
Don't forget to bring a recent piece of art work for our Mini Art Show.  We will be voting for the best art work on
display that evening.  The winning artist will go home with a gift certificate.

As always a snack to share is greatly appreciated.

Want to earn some extra money?
Do a Workshop!

How would you like to earn some money? Would you like to share a particular skill you have in creating art? The Longmont Artist Guild is looking for art instructors to expand our workshop program. You provide the studio space (usually in your home) along with your "expertise" on a particular technique or project. LAG will get the word out for you so you can get lots of students. No commission or fees to LAG as long as you are a current member. You can charge $10 - $25 per person, depending on the length of the workshop and what you provide. You can always send out a supply list and the students bring their own. To offer a workshop, get ideas or advice, just email us at:

Virla Harrell
...had the honor of teaching watercolor to a special lady who two weeks ago, after a challenge with stage four cancer, left this life. Her family had come to Virla to choose one of Zay's paintings to put on the program for her Memorial Service.  Virla requested the last painting that Zay had worked on, which was three-quarters completed.  Virla took the painting and completed it and now it is Zay's own painting on the program for her Memorial.  As artists we never know what footprints we leave to make a difference in someone's life!

Janine Ewing-Belletire

... will have her work displayed at Staufer Team Real Estate  932 Main St.  Louisville, CO through the months of October and November.

Please stop in during their hours of operation and Louisville's First Friday Art Walk.

Support the Left Hand Artist Group at their YART Sale:
S at 10/13 10-2pm
This will be both a Yard Sale and Art Sale hence the name YART Sale. It is a collective of several people bringing their items for sale. This is a charity event for the LEFTHAND ARTIST GROUP, it is open to the public, and will be beneficial to the LONGMONT community. Come get some early holiday shopping done. Buy from and meet the artist. Spread the word! Shoes and Brews will be donating $1.00 for every beer they sell this day to the group for our Kickstarter. We are trying to raise enough money to find a space for our group to continue growing and giving back to many local events and charities. 10-2 LHAG Community Art Center

Does public art and performance have the power to amplify the visibility and histories of marginalized communities and create spaces for connecting across difference in Boulder County and beyond? After a brief planetarium show to gain a different perspective about space, join moderator Danielle Rivera, Urb Lab and assistant professor of environmental design, and artists, activists and scholars to learn about how they address these issues through their work.
Panelists will discuss examples such as: the new Indigenous History Mural in the Visual Arts Complex, a nascent project commemorating Los Seis de Boulder, a Louisiana-style social dance procession honoring resistance and resilience, and creative placemaking that includes Latino communities in arts districts around Colorado.
