STUDENTS HOST FIRST EVER TEDX EVENT AT LAGUNA
This fall, Laguna students are taking part in a semester-long, project-based learning initiative to organize and host a TEDx event that will take place January 31, 2018 at Laguna Blanca School.

Students in the TEDx class will be involved in every aspect of event planning, including identifying a meaningful theme, selecting speakers, creating and managing a budget, and organizing professional-level audio and visual coverage so it can be shared around the world.

Humanities Teacher Anna Alldredge leads the class and says, “Essentially, the students in this elective will be running their own non-profit organization, top to bottom. And, the final project will be a daylong TEDx event open to the entire Santa Barbara community.”

EK AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS VISIT FAIRVIEW GARDENS
Early kindergarten and second grade students experienced a little taste of farm life last week when they traveled to Fairview Gardens on the little Laguna school bus. For some of the students, it was their first school bus ride. It was adorable to see the second graders watch out for their EK buddies. See more photos at the EK blog .
MS STUDENTS PRACTICE CAVE ART ON CAMPUS
As a culminating activity for their immersive unit on prehistoric humans, sixth grade students tried their hand at cave art. They worked together using charcoal and paint to depict complex prompts about everyday life in the Paleolithic era. For a short time, Mrs. Caldwell's office in Spaulding Auditorium was transformed into a dark, candlelit Lascaux.
THE FOURTH ESTATE WINS CROWN AWARD FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Laguna Blanca's student publication  The Fourth Estate  was one of 28 hybrid magazines chosen as finalists for the CSPA Crown Award to be presented on March 2018 at Columbia University. Crown finalists are actual winners, not just nominees. Some will be announced as Gold Crowns; the rest are Silver Crowns. A total of 1,100 publications were eligible for judging. The magazines were published during the 2016-17 academic year.

"For  The Fourth Estate  to receive Crown Awards two years in a row is unprecedented," says Journalism Teacher Trish McHale. "It’s significant because it represents overall excellence in journalism on a national scale."

RIBBON IS CUT ON NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL QUAD
Middle School student leaders cut the ribbon to the new quad on Monday, October 2 and celebrated with their classmates on the grass with picnic lunches, music, and popsicles. We are so grateful for the generous contributions that made the revitalization possible. The space was inspired by students and they are loving the end result!
All Middle School students who are interested in and enjoy mathematics are invited to join Middle School Math Club for its first meeting, which will include a pizza lunch:
Wednesday, October 11
12:20-12:50PM
Room E402

Middle School Math Club gives students the opportunity to engage in mathematics in a fun way that is different from “textbook math.” It cultivates curiosity, builds confidence, and promotes math achievement.
