TEDxLBS IS IN THE NEWS!
TEDxLAGUNABLANCASCHOOL 2019 THEME
EXPLORES THE 'UNCHARTED'

At Laguna Blanca School, students have found that an event with “ideas worth spreading” is also an event worth repeating. That’s why they chose to bring TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool, which began in January 2018, back for another inspiring year. The daylong event is an independently organized TED conference where up to 20 speakers present on a specific theme. Last year, with the theme “Evolve,” the inaugural event featured 16 speakers and attracted more than 550 attendees. But on January 29, TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool is going in a different direction.

This week we welcomed six Owls back to the nest for Laguna's Annual Alumni College Panel. Director of College Counseling Matt Struckmeyer moderated the lively discussion, which was followed by a Q&A. Always a favorite assembly, Upper School students enjoyed learning about time management, the Greek system, and choosing the right college. Panelists concluded the discussion by sharing what advice they would give to their younger selves.

LAGUNA LOWER SCHOOLERS RAISE THEIR LIGHT AND VOICES FOR THE MONTECITO COMMUNITY
Yesterday, January 9 marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating Montecito debris flow.

To commemorate the anniversary of this event, Montecito community members gathered for the Raising our Light event. The program began in Lower Manning Park where Montecito elementary school students, including several students from Laguna, joined together to sing "This Little Light of Mine." In addition, victims and their families spoke to the crowd about their experiences.

A community candlelight remembrance walk to All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church for a bell ceremony and a cup of soup concluded the event.

A huge thank you to Head of Lower School Dr. Andy Surber for his integral part in planning this healing event.
US THEATRE WINTER PRODUCTION DEBUTS NEXT WEEK
ABOUT THE PLAY
Set in December 1936, Broadway star William Gillette--who is admired the world over for his leading role in the play  Sherlock Holmes --  has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is murdered, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.
