LAGUNA HOSTS 140 STUDENTS FOR FIRST ANNUAL MASTER BUILDER COMPETITION WITH LEGOS
By Stacy Sakai, KEYT

Laguna Blanca School held its 1st Annual Master Builder Competition with LEGOS over the weekend.

Hosted by Laguna's STEM program, the event featured three divisions: kindergarten through second grade, third and fourth grades, and fifth and sixth grades.

The competition included a timed event for each child to build the school's owl mascot. Each of the 140 entrants received a LEGO owl kit and a participation medal.

The kids also built and worked on vertical structures, bridges, and race car ramps.

The top three builders in each division went home with a trophy and an additional LEGO kit.

Congratulations to EK-12 STEM Coordinator & Middle School Science Instructor Zack Moore, who created and organized this exciting outreach event. “We had over 140 K-6th grade students participate," says Zack. "It was inspirational seeing their creative and innovative solutions to the engineering challenges.”

FOREVER GRATEFUL OWLS
Last weekend, Laguna's Girls Soccer team played Coast Union the first team the Owls played last year after the mudslide and the same team who raised over $2,000 for our school as a result of the devastating losses in our community. This year, Laguna's team made them brownies and a giant thank you card to once again express what a huge impact their kind gesture had on the Owls and our community.
