ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME FOR LAGUNA SIXTH GRADERS
Sixth Grade students experienced a feast on Monday during their decadent Roman Banquet. Dressed in togas, sixth graders enjoyed extravagant fare while parent servants provided table service and Laguna's seventh grade Latin class provided a dramatic gladiator performance. This popular annual event is the culmination of their study of ancient civilizations.

THIRD GRADE TAKES ON THE GREAT OUTDOORS
From the Third Grade Blog

Third grade families celebrated the students' learning of Santa Barbara history by traveling up to the Sage Hill campsite. There, they ventured on a four-mile hike and participated in a variety of activities, such as making lanterns, using natural dyes to paint Chumash symbols, and practicing finding an archaeological site. After their activities, some families continued the experience with an overnight camping trip.

For their last drive of the school year, the Sock Club is welcoming donations of any kind—new socks, warm things, summer things, shoes, toiletries, anything—to people experiencing homelessness. Even the smallest donations are deeply appreciated. Items can be left in front of Ms. Tidey’s classroom (Starbuck Room) or at the LS Main Office any time until 3PM on Thursday (5/31). At 6PM that night, the Sock Club—along with new members of the Dos Pueblos High School Sock Club chapter—will distribute the items at Alameda Park.

QUESTIONS? Contact Ashley Tidey.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SAN CLEMENTE!
The 2018 Middle School House Championship goes to San Clemente who will enjoy their afternoon victory outing on Friday, June 1 at the Public Market for lunch, followed by a climbing session at the Santa Barbara Rock Gym.

Laguna's Middle School Advisory program links with the MS House system, which adds an element of friendly competition to the weekly rhythm of school. These eight houses, consisting of a mixture of all four Middle School grades, are named after the Channel Islands. There are weekly house events that incorporate play, creativity, and camaraderie, and include both athletic games (volleyball, dodge ball, kickball, ping pong, etc.) and other challenges (House Spelling Bee, Quiz Bowl, Olympics, etc.). At the end of each school year, one House is honored as House Cup Champions with an engraved trophy.

Congratulations to the following students of San Clemente, led by Mr. Neustadt:

MIDDLE SCHOOL SERVICE DAY SUCCESS!
Students in Grades 5-8 participated in a day of service last Friday, 5/18. Fifth through seventh graders participated in beach clean-ups, and as per tradition, the eighth graders installed a class gift (two student-designed murals for exterior walls) as a lasting legacy on the Middle School campus.

Fifth and sixth graders picked up 50 pounds of trash at Leadbetter Beach, and then enjoyed a beach party afterward.

Seventh graders partnered with the Sea Center on East Beach for their beach cleanup and also learned about the danger of plastic waste. They enjoyed an afternoon beach party as well.

Eighth graders spent the morning improving the Middle School campus through reorganizing the lost and found bin, working in the garden, and painting their murals. They ended the day with a fun celebration at Hope Ranch Beach.

"Overall, it was an awesome day thanks to everyone’s help and support," says Middle School Humanities Teacher Anna Alldredge. " Our beaches are cleaner, the MS quad looks great, and we had lots of sandy, happy MS students."

Thank you to all who made this day possible and for all of the hard work our students put in for our community!
FIELD TRIPPIN'
Seventh Grade Latin students and Upper School Art History students visited the Getty Villa in Malibu this week. The trip was the culmination of the seventh grade villa project where students designed Roman villas for teachers. Art History students enjoyed seeing some of the objects they studied this year.
LAGUNA FOURTH GRADERS COMPETE IN THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Today, 5/24, thirteen Laguna fourth grade students participated in the Battle of the Books at Crane School. A mix of readers from Laguna and other schools worked together in a "battle" to see which team had retained the most knowledge about the books they read.

Fourth graders were required to read six books outside of their regular school reading assignments. Mrs. Brace met with the group each week over the past few months to help prepare them for the contest.

Great job, Fourth Grade Owls!
