BE SOCIAL!
FAMILY FUN AT PICNIC ON THE GREEN!
Join us for the annual Family Picnic on the Green next Friday, September 14 from 5-7PM on the Hope Ranch campus!

Make an afternoon of it – cheer on the football team at their 3PM home game and stay to picnic and enjoy music afterwards.

This relaxing evening will feature toe tunes by the popular The Bryan TITUS Trio and complimentary dessert by Scoops.

ABOUT THE BAND
The Bryan Titus Trio grows up like a weed from a tangled and overgrown history of Bluegrass and American Roots Music. Recently touted as a "Postmodern Barn Dance" band, they write & perform toe-tapping tunes that evoke themes & melodies of yesterday with a pinch of modern irony.

NEW THIS YEAR: there will be no food for purchase at the event. Remember to pack or order your own picnic and join in on the fun!

LAGUNA BLANCA GIRLS TENNIS SEASON STARTS OFF WITH A WIN
BY BARRY PUNZAL, NOOZHAWK SPORTS EDITOR

Laguna Blana defeated Dunn 13-5 in the girls tennis opener for both teams on Thursday, 8/30.

Freshman singles players Madeleine Nicks '22 and Lauren Neubauer '22 went 3-0 and 2-1, respectively, "with performances well beyond their years," said coach Rob Cowell.

In doubles, the team of Ava Rice '22 and Grace Fitzpatrick '20 went 2-0 and their subs Julianna Seymour '22 and Paloma McKean '22 won the third match. Nina Wolff '20 and Vivian Hu '20 went 3-0 for the Owls, winning their second set in a tiebreaker.  Phoebe Stein '21 & Nafisah Fathima '21 went 2-1.

Congratulations, Owls! Keep up the good work!
LAGUNA BLANCA IS VICTORIOUS IN 8-MAN FOOTBALL OPENER
BY BARRY PUNZAL, NOOZHAWK SPORTS EDITOR

Seniors Josh Baron '19 and Ty Trosky '19 broke off 65-yard touchdown runs, and six different players scored touchdowns for the Laguna Blanca 8-man football team in a 42-20 season-opening victory over Valley Christian Academy on Friday, 8/31.

Trosky and Baron were part of Laguna's CIF football finalist team last season.
Trosky, the quarterback, also threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Christian Branch '20.

The Owls' defense played a part in the win with Andrew Tolles '19 recovering a fumble for a score and Kyle Aitcheson '19 forcing a fumble to set up a  Brian McClintock '20 18-yard touchdown run that sealed the win.

LAGUNA BLANCA VOLLEYBALL BEATS CATE IN FIVE-SET THRILLER
BY BARRY PUNZAL, NOOZHAWK SPORTS EDITOR

After getting blown out in the fourth set, Laguna Blanca setter Maddie Walker '19 willed her team to victory in the fifth against rival Cate in a non-league girls volleyball match on Friday, 8/31 at Merovick Gym. The scores were 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 7-25, 15-12.

"Senior Maddie Walker stepped up before game five and demanded more from the team," Laguna assistant coach Kat Niksto said. "To bounce back, battle the nerves, and pull out a game-five victory was huge."

Laguna Blanca (4-1) lost a five-set match earlier in the week.

"The match just two days ago that we lost had a big role in the outcome being different this time around," Niksto said. "We are a young team when it comes to experience level, and we are getting so much early-season experience from these non-league matches, it’s just what we have hoped for.”
