Dear Commissioners:
We are asking the Board to budget $2 M annually for the LAMP program.
As a longtime advocate for reinstating the Land Acquisition Management Program (LAMP), the St. Johns County Civic Roundtable was delighted to see the first property list submitted by the LAMP board.
Land conservation is more critical than ever with St. Johns County being one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. However, the LAMP fund is inadequate to effectively leverage other funding sources, even to provide a match.
LAMP has much catching-up to do for the years it was dormant. It needs an infusion of more capital to meet the challenges of the rampant growth the county is experiencing. The Civic Roundtable urges the Commission to appropriate $2 M annually to help maintain the quality of life that county residents cherish here in St. Johns County.
With additional funding for LAMP, the County will be in a better position to leverage other state and local funds to acquire these properties.
