Dear Members,

As we step into August, we embrace a season most associated with "sowing seeds", a time to invest in what we hope to harvest in the months and years ahead. This theme resonates deeply with our mission as legal professionals and as members of a bar committed to progress, equity, and impact.

This month, I encourage each of us to reflect on the seeds we are sowing. Are we cultivating opportunities for those who follow? Are we investing in relationships, systems, and structures that will outlast us? On behalf of Langston, I proudly answer...YES!

At the beginning of this year, I made a commitment to grow our Langston family by securing 100 new members. I’m delighted to share that we have not only met that goal, we have surpassed it, welcoming over 109 new members to date.

I also pledged to provide 100 free wills and powers of attorney to members of our community. I am thrilled to announce that this month, we are launching Langston’s Sow. Sign. Secure. Tour, a bold initiative to help our community plant legal roots and protect their legacies.

As we prepare for a vibrant fall season, let us continue to plant boldly, with the understanding that even the smallest seeds, planted in purpose and nourished in community, can grow into transformative legacies.

In purpose,

Tatianna Y. Metters Scurlock, Esq.

President, John M. Langston Bar Association
