President's Message

5e07dba0-1d5e-45f6-877d-edd0565b38e1 image

Greetings and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day,

I want to first share my prayers and concern for everyone affected by the ongoing LA Fires, especially Langston members and their extended friends and family. Though I could never have predicted that the start of my tenure as Langston President would be in the midst of such devastation and loss in our beautiful city, I’m extremely proud and honored to lead the charge and support our organization during these trying times. While I am excited about the year ahead, our current focus will be on informing and supporting our Langston family and others impacted by the fires as we look to sow seeds through the power of community and re-build. We have already distributed information and resources for those affected, are co-hosting free disaster relief clinics, and will announce other initiatives soon.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am the Principal and Founder of the Law Offices of Tatianna Y. Metters, APC. Our practice areas are wills, trusts, probate administration, conservatorships, guardianships and estate planning. We service clients in all counties throughout Southern California. I joined the Langston Board of Directors in 2017 under the leadership of Past President Felton Newell and have been delighted to serve the board and community in a variety of roles. I am also President of the HBCU 2 Law, non-profit organization, serve on the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles board and serve other organizations.

I want to congratulate our stellar outgoing President Melvin Felton, who led this organization in achieving considerable success in serving and enriching our community and has now passed the baton to me. Joining me on the front line is our 2025 board – comprised of prominent and compassionate legal professionals who have exhibited an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice, equality, and professional enrichment in line with Langston’s mission.

As we embark on this new chapter, I warmly invite you to join us for Langston’s 48th Annual Installation and Scholarship Awards Gala on February 21, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. This special evening is an opportunity to come together, celebrate our scholarship recipients, honor the remarkable achievements of our Honorees, and kick off a year dedicated to “Sowing Seeds.”

I encourage all members and supporters to purchase tickets and attend this premier event, which also serves as Langston’s largest fundraiser for the Langston Scholarship Fund. In light of the recent fires and Langston’s mission of community support, a portion of the funds raised will be donated to fire relief efforts.

As a lead up to the Gala, we’re thrilled to kick off the year with an exclusive partnership with Ralph Lauren Beverly Hills for a charitable shopping event on February 7-9, 2025, at the Ralph Lauren Beverly Hills store benefiting the Langston Scholarship Fund. A portion of the funds raised from this event will also be donated to support fire relief efforts. More details are in the flyer below.

Please be on the lookout for our upcoming events, programs, partnerships and opportunities to serve this year. Together, we can continue growing Langston’s legacy through purpose and service.

I look forward to your support and participation in Sowing Seeds!

Tatianna Metters Scurlock, Esq.
