President-Elect Cathy Smith called the meeting to order.Total attendance-25, Members-19, other Kiwanis members-1 (Bob Kemper), other guests-Dorothy Dodson, Angela Katz from LARC and Aktion Club member president Connie, Linda Buckley, principal and teacher Dawn Valezquez from Tanglewood Elementary. Our newest member is Sarah Kuehner. 

  • 50/50-Marilyn Weinstein had the winning ticket today. 
  • Everett is at Health Park Care and Rehab, room 216A for a couple weeks. If you have a chance to pay a visit he welcomes company. Phone is 343-7300. Address is 16131 Roserush Ct., 33908. 

 No club members are celebrating in December 
however former member and BUG chair Chrysten Foley is on the 23rd. 
Linda Petrik picked up gifts for the Giving Tree project the Edison Club helps with every year. 

Cathy Smith presents a check to Linda Buckley, Principal and teacher Dawn Valezquez to fund the start up for a Movement/Sensory room at Tanglewood Elementary School.

Oasis Reading/Mentoring (Stewart Ross) weekly  at Orangewood  Elementary on Wednesdays  9:30am-10:10am. Please let Stewart know if you can help. Four volunteers are needed each week. Come make a difference! There is no school Dec 23-January 3rd

MS Support Group(Bill Grant), meets 3rd Thursday of each month at St. Hilary Episcopal Church. 

Literacy Buddy  "Buddies" still welcome. You will be paired with a child (age 3-5). Three times a year you will get a letter from your child and a few notes from his/her teacher describing the type of book they would like to have. You purchase the book and it goes to your child.   Start by signing up:     In the section where it says preferred school write in Metro-McGregor Kiwanis Club. Books are due to the children; Jan 17th (second book) and April 17th, (third book). 
                                                    SLP's (Service Leadership Programs) 
Aktion Club -(Karen Hurst) at LARC. Meets 2nd Tuesday at 8:30am, year-round. They are collecting bottle caps as well. Bring in clean/used T-shirts for Karen to take as they are making more dog toys. 

CKI Club- at FGCU. (Stewart Ross)  CKI Mentorship-

Key Club-(Harris Segel) Collegiate High on FSW campus. 

Builder's Club-(Barbara Hartman, Todd Adams, Ada Trapanese) Cypress Lake Middle. They club recently participated in Community Day at their school and Barbara shared some of their upcoming projects including making cards for the troops. 

K-Kids-(Kim Berghs) Littleton Elementary. Meetings are on Wednesdays at 2:15pm 
                                Today's Program: LARC and Aktion Club

Our program speaker today was from LARC-Lee Association for Remarkable Citizens. This 501c3 has been serving the needs of individuals and families impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1954. Example services they provide; adult day training for post school aged adults, community support services (supported living coaching, supported employment, personal supports, companion, respite and youth programs). They also operate 2 residential group homes and have a satellite campus in Bonita Springs. Our club sponsors Aktion Club at LARC and we are very proud of the members and all they do to give back to our community. President Connie from the club came today with Angela Katz and shared with us some of the projects they do.
